Where to find Delicious Tasting CBD Chocolate in the UK

Delicious Tasting CBD Chocolate

In the US, they have all sorts of cannabis edibles on offer from sweet to savoury - they have just about turned any conventional snack into one that’s been infused with cannabis. They are also a fair bit stronger as most contain THC - the chemical compound in cannabis that gets you high. So you have to be very stringent irrespective of how delicious they may be as too much could leave you out of action for a few hours! In the UK, it is illegal for any cannabis product to contain any more than 0.2% of THC, meaning that all of our edibles are CBD edibles and have zero to negligible amounts of THC in them. I will use this article to explain a bit more about CBD edibles in the UK and my most favourite CBD edible - CBD chocolate!

CBD edibles made in the UK, due to regulation, are usually infused with hemp extract rather than marijuana. This is because hemp contains a much higher concentration of CBD and trace amounts of THC thereby making it compliant with the law. A CBD edible is exactly what it says on the tin - some sort of edible delight that has added CBD to the ingredient list. Over this way, unlike in the US, CBD edibles tend to be sweet treats such as CBD gummies, CBD chocolate or CBD brownies, we have yet to see any savoury snacks go through a CBD transformation.

As mentioned, unlike our friends over the pond, our edibles will be either made from isolate, broad spectrum or full spectrum CBD. CBD isolate means that the CBD has been extracted and isolated from any other cannabinoids; broad spectrum is CBD that also contains a broad spectrum of other cannabinoids except THC which has been removed or extracted from it; and, finally, full spectrum is CBD that contains all other cannabinoids present in the plant (including THC). In the UK, given that our CBD is derived from hemp, if anyone is stating that their product is full spectrum this is rather a stretch as this will mean trace to negligible amounts of THC given the chemical profile of a hemp plant which is important to remember if you ever visit the US as you will be in for a treat when you end up getting really rather high!

I would always suggest going for a CBD edible that contains broad spectrum CBD over isolate. This is because when other cannabinoids like CBG and CBC are present and not just CBD, it is believed that the associated benefits of the CBD will be more pronounced and effective. This is called the entourage effect which is the term used to describe the benefits of taking more than one individual component of a cannabis plant at a time.

As mentioned, CBD chocolate is my go to CBD edible. When going for edibles, you sort of want the hemp taste to be masked by whatever delicious treat you are consuming. For me, I am a huge chocolate lover so it was a no brainer to hide the taste of hemp flavour with that. However, it wasn’t until only recently that I was able to find one that actually tasted like chocolate. The CBD chocolates that I had tried prior were really playing up the “au natural” vibes, but sadly this just meant the CBD chocolate tasted bitter and earthy, and was rather dry. I worried that this meant all CBD chocolate would taste similar, but I kept trying whatever new bar came onto the market just in case. This is because CBD chocolate would be the perfect substitute for my evening chocolate before bed routine - a little bit of sweetness, but with all the calming properties to help me sleep! It was then that I tried Paso which I had come across in a magazine. Not only does the bar look like something out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but the chocolate is velvety smooth and tastes like a non CBD chocolate bar that I would happily devour before bed! Each of their bars are also a lot more reasonably priced given the amount of CBD they have put in it. The bar is 75mg of CBD and costs £8. I have tried both their milk and dark - which are both delicious so it really depends on your preference!
