Smoking Hemp Vs. Smoking Marijuana

What do you prefer to smoke?

By Veselina DzhingarovaPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Marijuana and hemp are part of the cannabis family. These flowers will smell, look, and taste identical, but they are actually very different. Their chemical composition, side effects, and legality are not the same. Many people smoke marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes because of the high THC content, which can have many negative side effects on the user. On the other hand, hemp provides the user with all of the benefits of CBD, without causing a high. To help you understand more, today we will be comparing smoking hemp and marijuana.

What Are the Main Compounds?

The main compound that you will find in your packet of hemp smokes will be CBD. CBD can offer many benefits to the people who choose to smoke or consume it, without the psychoactive effects of recreational or medical marijuana. This is because the main compound in marijuana is THC. Hemp only contains traces of THC, which are present to help improve the effects of CBD without making you high. This is known as the entourage effect.

Do They Smell Different?

When you open a pack of good-quality hemp cigs, it should emit a powerful fragrance that is basically the same as the smell of cannabis. If you smoke a quality hemp flower and it has a distinct and captivating smell, this isn’t bad. It just means that it contains a high number of terpenes. A pungent aroma is a sign of quality and hence its something you should closely look out for. If your bud does not smell or smells like hay, then it means that it is a low-quality product and this is something to be mindful of, especially since a low quality product might be detrimental to your health.

How Will You Feel?

Users will describe the effects of smoking hemp as a ‘non-intoxicating body high.’ This is different from the pleasurable high that is associated with smoking marijuana. Smoking hemp buds can provide people with a similar level of psychological satisfaction without the high and that is something that many look for. It can bascially be described as a relaxing and soothing feeling without any accompanying negative effects. Some strains of hemp can make you feel more energized, whereas others make you sleepy. Hence, its better to do bit of research into the kinds of hemp products available and their effects, before you opt for one.

Can You Smoke Too Much?

Although it can make you feel really unwell when you smoke too much of it, no one has ever overdosed on marijuana. Some people think that if you smoke a large enough amount of hemp you will start to feel the high associated with cannabis. There hasn’t been that much research into the effects of smoking too much hemp, but there is no evidence to suggest that you can feel high from smoking too much of it. Which is heartening for those who would like to try hemp products.

Does it Show on a Drug Test?

If you smoke marijuana, then you will fail a drug test, but the same can’t be said for those who smoke hemp cigarettes. If you choose to smoke hemp, then you are unlikely to fail a drug test. This is because it shouldn’t contain more than 0.3% THC, which is an illegal compound. However, there is a possibility that it could show if you smoke hemp often because over a long period of time, the THC could build up in your system.

Smoking marijuana or hemp will both offer pros and cons. This is why doing your research beforehand is extremely important and highly recommended.
