Nah, Sandy wasn’t fittin to mess wit no wildlife, not today. Shoot, not ever. She ain’t even think about how quickly she scooped Minnie up and trotted back to her bungalow. Minnie looked like she was clinging on to Sandy’s shoulder for dear life her little head cradled in the nook of Sandy’s neck.

“Mommy is so sorry my sweet pea doggie. But you’re a good girl for scarin Bambi and em away”

When they got back inside, the first thing Sandy did was take off Minnie’s leash then head straight back to the bathroom to run water for a shower.

The morning was clinging to her and she had to cleanse it off of her so she could be refreshed for the rest of the day’s activities.

She still hadn’t made up her mind if she was gonna make to Cedric’s to breakfast, brunch or at that point, at all. But since the mornin was widening into early afternoon, she decided to stop being so contrary and difficult and went into her sweater pocket for her phone to call the man and at least tell him she ain’t made up her mind yet.

That would be the adult thing to do. Adulting was the bare minimum she expected from anyone. She knew from past experience not to automatically expect maturity from adults. Because sometimes no matter how grown a certain individual would profess to be, it was his or her actions that were the determining factor on whether or not that person was, in fact, mature. Since she was reprimanding her own stubbornness and immaturity in her own thoughts, Sandy tapped the necessary buttons on the face of her phone, and dialed Cedric’s number, but the call went straight to voicemail.

Shrugging, she tapped to hang up then let the phone fall deep into the pocket of her sweater which she took off and hung on the coat rack by the door.

Sandy actually paused to laugh at the empty coat rack. She lived alone and rarely had company, so that coat rack stayed empty. She thought about just nailing a hook on the wall and buying a pretty plant to put in that space instead, but she just couldn’t bare to get rid of the coat rack. But she didn’t know why.

Walking over to the coffee bar, Sandy decided that if anything else was gonna happen at all today, she was gonna have to fully caffeinate herself first.

It was a running joke in the faculty lounge off of the cafeteria, that Sandy typically didn’t speak to anyone until she drank thirty-two ounces of coffee and/or it was after ten am. The reason it was a joke because everyone in that lounge knew that most faculty were very much like the Queen in Alice in Wonderland who believed in six impossible things before breakfast, Sandy had a tendency to achieve six impossible things before breakfast. Whether it was grading stacks of quizzes from three different classes, returning a student’s email explaining why his speech topic was borderline smut and not suitable for the classroom, to going over the departmental essay exam scores with her supervisor, none of it got done until she felt the warm, rich beverage coat her soul with comforting motivation.

So this morning she decided to fill her extra large faux “Dunkin Donuts”thermos full of Colombian coffee and butter pecan creamer and sit on her balcony for a spell before getting into the shower. So just as she shut the water off in the shower, she heard a large vicious dog barking in the pocket of her sweater.
