What's The Exact Difference?

Dad Grass CBD Tincture

In today's dynamically progressive period, two substances should spring to mind when thinking about cannabis: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which makes people "high," and cannabidiol (CBD), which makes people feel chilled and relaxed without any psychoactive effects. Even though THC and CBD are well-known chemicals, many people are curious about CBN.

Although CBD and THC are the two most common naturally occurring compounds discovered in Cannabis sativa, hemp's molecular structure contains over 100 phytocannabinoids.

We'll go over what CBN is, how it affects your body, the difference between CBN and CBD, and how you can start incorporating CBN into your daily routine if you haven't already.

What Is CBN?

CBN is a cannabinoid produced by the breakdown of (THC) molecules when hemp matures. THC degrades into CBN molecules during decarboxylation, which occurs when raw cannabis is exposed to heat and oxygen for an extended time.

In addition, as hemp matures, it loses more THC in favor of CBN. So CBN isn't fully non-psychoactive, but it's slightly psychoactive because its intoxication intensity is only one-fourth that of THC.

According to the UNODC investigation, the cannabis they tested had lost 50% of its THC potency over four years. THC was transformed into CBN as it was oxidized and depleted.

CBN has various distinguishing characteristics that set it apart from the other phytocannabinoids in cannabis. The following are the distinctions between CBN and THC:

THC that has been decarboxylated yields CBN.

CBN isn't completely non-psychoactive, but its strength is just one-fourth that of THC. CBN has been identified and studied as a sign of mature cannabis.

As time passes, THC transforms into more CBN.

Because of the outcomes of rodent research, CBN is commonly referred to as "the drowsy cannabinoid." This is because it's the fundamental feature that distinguishes CBN from other cannabinoids. To present, most research on CBN's sedative effects has been done on animals. However, certain terpenes may be to blame for the effect seen in these studies.

How Does CBN Work?

CBN, like other cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, functions in various ways. Its functionality is enabled by its ability to interact with the human body via the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

It binds to CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors and has different activation mechanisms than THC. So even though CBN isn't nearly as psychoactive as THC, it can enhance THC's pleasant effects. The entourage effect refers to the synergistic response of cannabinoids boosting other cannabinoids. It's also worth mentioning that the trace quantities of CBN in consumer hemp products aren't enough to make you high.

While CBN's effects are less well-known than CBD and THC, it does have a few other advantages.

What Are The Benefits Of CBN?

Unfortunately, the advantages of CBN are not yet fully appreciated. CBN clearly interacts with the ECS to alter the effects of other cannabinoids. However, scientists are unsure how it affects the body on its own. So, for the time being, it's better to think of CBN's benefits as part of the entourage effect, which occurs when a group of phytocannabinoids operates together. CBN, along with CBG and other minor cannabinoids, is currently found in hemp-derived wellness products with high CBD concentrations.

CBN, like CBD and THC cannabinoids, interacts with the endocannabinoid system:

  • CBN binds to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain.
  • CBN has the potential to enhance THC's euphoria-inducing properties (entourage effect)
  • There is no clear list of CBN's positive uses — more research is needed.
  • Despite the fact that CBD and other phytocannabinoids interact similarly and cooperatively, CBN and CBD differ in essential aspects.

What Is The Difference Between CBN and CBD?

Cannabis plants produce both CBN and CBD, which are phytocannabinoids. While they have certain features in common with cannabinoids, they are two different cannabis chemicals with distinct origins and effects, particularly in terms of how they are created and interact with the human body. But first, what exactly is CBD?

What Is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid found in the Cannabis sativa plant. It's the second most prevalent cannabinoid generated by cannabis, making up 40% of the genetic structure of industrial hemp (a cannabis strain with less than 0.3 percent THC).

CBD does not induce euphoria or a "high" state. Instead, it operates by connecting to or communicating with CB2 cannabinoid receptors, which interact with our endocannabinoid system.

How Does CBN Differ From CBD?

Both substances are phytocannabinoids, which are phytocannabinoids that are produced by cannabis plants.

While CBD is commonly found in industrial hemp and other high-CBD cannabis strains, the amount of CBN is regulated by cannabis maturity – specifically, how long the THC content was exposed to heat and oxygen.

Neither cannabinoid has an intoxicating effect, but they can both influence the THC-induced outcome. For example, CBD typically mitigates some of THC's adverse effects, whereas CBN may enhance THC, resulting in the sleepy impact that most people wrongly attribute to CBN.

While CBD molecules typically link to CB2 cannabinoid receptors, CBN molecules can also attach to CB1 and CB2 connections, albeit having a lower affinity for both than CBD and THC. CBN, however, can function through biological routes other than the ECS.

How Can I Use CBN?

People are currently having difficulty finding cannabis-based products that are high in CBN. However, there are many CBN oils, capsules, or tinctures on the market, just as there are CBD oils, capsules, or tinctures, owing to an absence of study on CBN and its link to "expired" cannabis.

However, this does not imply that CBN is entirely unavailable.

Many CBD oils and products made from hemp are marketed as either broad-spectrum or full spectrum. To ensure the entourage effect, these CBD products contain a variety of terpenes, flavonoids, and other cannabinoids, including CBN — albeit the CBN content may be pretty low.

When comparing CBN Tincture VS CBD Tincture, keep the following in mind:

  • CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that does not cause euphoria or a "high."
  • Hemp plants contain high quantities of CBD, whereas cannabis maturity determines CBN levels.
  • THC's psychotropic effects can be altered by both cannabinoids.
  • CBN binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors, but CBD predominantly binds to CB2 connectors.
