There are many places and ways to be cannabidiol or CBD. There are also many ways to use this product, from vaping it to rubbing it on your skin. If you're interested but not sure how to start, the suggestions below can make you more comfortable with your purchase.

Look For Producers That Require Independent Testing

If you have a local CBD shop or are reviewing the information in a CBD oil online store, look for producers that provide the data gleaned from third-party or independent testing. This testing is done outside the facility of the producer and is paid for by the producer.

Such testing results can confirm that

  • the cannabis plants used in your CBD were grown organically
  • your CBD purchase contains little to no THC
  • your CBD edibles, including oils and gummies, were packaged in a clean and secure facility

If you don't see this data, shop elsewhere. Producers with a strong commitment to great products are proud and happy to display third-party testing results; it means that they can stand behind their products.

Buy Broad Spectrum Products

The traditional view of cannabis products is that they can get you "high", which can have negative cultural implications for some users. If you want or need to be absolutely certain that there's no THC in your system, buy broad-spectrum products or invest in CBD isolates to make sure that you stay THC-free.

CBD products with no measurable THC can be purchased in nearly any format. Depending on your health needs, you may want

  • CBD oil to put under your tongue to help you fall asleep
  • CBD gummies to eat before bed to help you stay asleep
  • a CBD topical lotion for irritated skin
  • CBD cream to apply to sore joints
  • a CBD stick to put on sore muscles or old scars
  • a CBD vaping pen that you can use to microdose
  • CBD isolate powder you can mix in foods and beverages

Each of these has a specific application but will impact your body at a different speed. As a general rule, the fastest way to get CBD into your bloodstream is with a sublingual dose of oil or a vaping pen. A topical will take a bit longer, and CBD edibles or isolate mixed in food will have the longest delay.

Determine Your Dosage

Experts recommend that you start small. A healthy CBD dose can be between 1 and 6 milligrams of product per 10 pounds of weight. If you are 150 pounds, take 15 mg of the product. As an example, most CBD oil droppers are 25 mg, so reduce that to just above the halfway mark. If you notice changes that work for you and improve the condition you need to address, your dosage has been determined. If you don't notice a change, you may need to bump up your intake.

Because each of us has our own CBD receptors, the use of this product is very personal. Keeping a journal can help you choose the best method and intake. For example, if you try a CBD oil to help you sleep and are able to fall asleep quickly but suffer soreness under the tongue, you may be sensitive to that carrier oil. Instead of using it under the tongue, you may be able to mix it into a cup of decaf tea before bed, get good results but not suffer any inflammation in your mouth.

You may also have better luck stacking your CBD. As noted above, edibles take longer to act on those receptors than a sublingual or vaped product. If you struggle with sleeplessness from pain, you might be able to take a sublingual dose at the same time that you eat an edible gummy. The sublingual dose will help you now; the gummy will release CBD into your bloodstream as you digest the product.

When you find a CBD store that displays their independent testing, you can be confident in their products in any form. Make sure to keep your sublingual oil in a cool, dark place; while CBD doesn't spoil, the oil can get rancid if exposed to air and light. Keep your gummies in the refrigerator if directed, and clean any vaping tools as directed by the manufacturer.
