5 Tips for Beginners Wanting to Make Weed Edibles

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a huge increase in the number of people using marijuana in their cooking. Roughly ten years ago, changes were made to allow people in certain U.S. states to use marijuana for personal and recreational use. Since then, weed edibles have become extremely popular, and every year we see these getting better and better.

While marijuana can now be included in most recipes, the most popular has continued to be chocolate brownies or cookies, with a myriad of recipes for making both. However, making edibles isn’t always as easy as it sounds. Not only do you want to produce something that tastes amazing, but you also want it to have an impact on the way you feel, which is exactly why it’s imperative you know and choose a recipe that has the effect you desire. Unfortunately, this can't be achieved by simply mixing some pre-bought cupcake mix with some crumbled weed products, like most blogs or articles would have you believe. Don’t worry, though. We’ve got some tips to get you started:

1. What You’ll Need to Make Edibles

If you want to make edibles, then the first thing you'll need is weed (which is obvious ;)). Once you’ve got your weed, you’ll want to find some easy edibles recipes that you like the look of. There are lots of easy recipes available online, but you have to be smart and do a bit of research to choose the correct ones.

2. The Strength

The effect an edible has can vary from person to person, so it's important to start off with low potency marijuana and slowly increase the amount of marijuana you include in your recipe. It’s recommended that beginners start off by using no more than 10mg of THC in their recipes. Research has shown that it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours for the effects of an edible to be felt, but that the effects can be up to 10x stronger, so please be mindful about how you proceed.

3. How to Decarb

The main reason why marijuana is smoked and not eaten is that it needs to be burnt in order to become psychoactive. If you want to feel the effects of your edibles, then you’ll need to cook them correctly, this is a very important tip and should not be overlooked. THC boils at 314 degrees Fahrenheit but heating it for too long can make it less potent. This is the basic process:

• Heat your oven to 240 degrees Fahrenheit

• Break your marijuana down into smaller pieces and place it on a baking sheet

• Place in the oven for 30 minutes until it’s golden brown

• Let the marijuana cool

• When cool, place it in a food processor and grind it until it’s ground coarsely

4. Infusion

Once you’ve baked your marijuana its time to make it into cannabutter. You can learn more about making Cannabutter here.Cannabutter can be used to transform almost any meal into a heavenly infused delight.

5. Help!

If your first batch of edibles doesn’t work out as planned, then don’t worry, it can happen to anyone. If they’re not strong enough, you simply need to add more marijuana in your next batch. However, if they’re too strong, there are some things you can do to help you come down from the high. Eating foods that contain citric acid or consuming pine nuts or pistachios have been proven to help.

And that’s it. Follow these simple tips, and you’ll be well on your way to making your first batch of delicious edibles.
