Most Unique Engagement Session Hacks

Photographs reflect the memories we live. To have a perfect engagement photo series, the trick is to be yourself. However, with decked-up camera equipment, posing with your love gets quite awkward. While spending a good time with the groom-to-be or bride-to-be and a few lenses, all you get is a bunch of artificial photos. You do not want that for you, right? A few funny and romantic candid shots are what we all long for. So, let’s take a quick look at how these few hacks can get you the perfect engagement photos. Are you ready?

Hack 1: Pre-Planning

The beauty of a photoshoot is the freedom that lies behind it. To stand uncomfortably in front of the camera can ruin your session. Stand tall and pre-plan; ask the photographer beforehand what is it that he or she is looking for? What are the poses they are thinking of? But that is not the end. This is not the ideal place to act introvert. If you are not comfortable with certain poses, speak up. The more you speak, the more you will start feeling comfortable with the photographer. At each step, remind yourself of the great sayings of Aaron Siskind, “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

Hack 2: Choosing the Perfect Location

Choose the photography location with your partner. Ask your other half if he or she is comfortable with the location. If both of you think the location can reflect who you are as a couple, go for it. This step is often directed by the photographer, but it shouldn’t be that way. They understand more about clicking a picture, but you both understand your story more than the camera person. Engagement sessions should speak your story loudly, so if the photographer insists on choosing the location, give him or her your options to choose from.

Hack 3: Ask for Close-ups

Close-up shots capture meaningful elements in an image; per se, the engagement ring – the souvenir of your love story. Or something else that is more important, which speaks of your story with a single glance. Assembling detailed shots is a great option for creating an engagement photo album. They look thorough and focused.

Hack 4: Simplicity Never Disappoints

If you have chosen outdoor shooting, you have thought of a great option. However, with outdoor engagement photoshoots, highly decked-up dresses do not suit well. To win over the engagement session, go for simple yet classy dresses. By that, we do not mean, do not wear makeup. Rather, you must, but go for nude makeovers instead. Nude and pastel colors are trending anyway. So, your images will not only look classy but trendy as well.

Hack 5: Communication is the Key

If you keep communicating with your partner and the photographer, the session will be moving. Given the fact, photo sessions are tiring; someone has to take charge of lighting up the mood. And believe me, the mood reflects in the photos. So, you better stock up a few jokes with you.

Hack 6: Tell a Story

Keeping in mind that you are shooting for an engagement photo album, try to tell a story. This will keep the audience hooked to the images and enjoy the story of your love life. To implement the same, tell this idea to your dedicated photographer and check with him or her if it is feasible for him to portray a story. Also, give the photographer a handful of storytelling ideas if you have some.

Hack 7: Finding the Key Light

If you are planning to conduct the engagement photo sessions indoors, you might require the assistance of artificial light. To keep the glamour of engagement on, try to use warm lights, following with golden organza or gown, and if you are the groom-to-be, go for a black tuxedo. You both will look nothing lesser than the Hollywood stars.

Hack 8: Enjoy the Session

It might sound like a lame hack now, but thank me after a month of the photo session. I will give you a quick example. When you look back to your school days, what do you recall, how you got a 10/10 in science? Not really, right? Rather we look back to those days when we bunked the classes, when unitedly the entire class got the punishment, how we fought and mingled again, how we stole tiffin and shared a piece of bread. We often tend to look back to those times when we actually enjoy and feel alive. Your engagement shoot should be exactly that; fun-filled and happy. So that when you flip those pages of the photobook, you can recall a happy memory.

Conclusion:

All these hacks are not photography tips, but to calm your soul inside-out. We know how nervous and awkward it gets during these times, but remember, it is the same person you love and spend possibly the entire day with. So, try to stay calm and have fun as much as you can. Because what counts when the sun sets are smiles and not regrets. Best of luck with the happy engagement session.
