1. Intro

This is a very quick post. I’m not a phoneographer but rather a person who likes to take pictures of people. From time to time I take pictures of myself too to capture the moment.

Sometimes, it is just for fun and sometimes, it’s because I want to remember something that happened when I was young or something from my past.

Regardless of whether it’s for fun or research purposes, taking pictures with a smartphone is always an interesting thing to do.

In this post, I will try to answer the question “Why is taking pictures using your phone nowadays becoming a trend?”

2. The Rise of Phoneography

Photography is a form of art, much like painting. However, the way we communicate with others through photography is more like a novel than an oil painting.

Because photography has so many benefits, it could be considered art. However, the way we communicate with one another through photography may be more like a novel than an oil painting.

The new craze of taking pictures of ourselves using our smartphone has shot up in popularity over the past year. This trend is not confined to just a few people. The growth in popularity of phoneography has been astounding and when you get into it you will find yourself spending countless hours looking at your phone’s camera to take photos that have no context to them at all.

The whole point of taking pictures for your personal use is for you to have some semblance of objective evidence about what went on in your life yesterday or what happened today or what are you going to do tomorrow or where are you going to go next or how can I use this random picture I took today as a reminder for tomorrow or how can I turn these random pictures into fantastic self-portraits?

While having photographs taken of our lives through our cell phones isn’t necessarily bad, there are plenty of negative implications that come with this trend. For example, by taking photographs with our phones we might not always be upfront and honest enough about what happened while we were out on vacation because there won’t always be any context around the photo itself and we might not always want to share that tidbit just because it was taken on vacation and took us somewhere exotic. I mean just imagine if every time you saw someone you had to stop your car and take a photo for some kind of reason!

How would people react if someone was parked outside their place all day long taking photos?! Who would want to interact with someone who was doing nothing but staring at his/her phone!?

And finally, there are all sorts of implications surrounding technology such as privacy issues around digital cameras and social media posts; where people feel pressured into sharing information about themselves without consent from any individuals involved in the creation of those images so that they can follow some sort of social media brand strategy.

3. Best Phone Editor Apps

Everyone who has a phone should have a good photo editor app. With so many options out there, it can be difficult to choose which app is the best for you. There are apps that are more simple and allow you to edit one photo at a time, while others offer more advanced editing tools. Below are some top editing apps in 2022.

PicsArt (Android, iOS) ...

Snapseed (Android, iOS) ...

Adobe Photoshop Camera (Android, iOS) ...

Pixlr (Android, iOS) ...

Adobe Lightroom (Android, iOS) ...

Instagram (Android, iOS) ...

Google Photos (Android, iOS) ...

Pixtica (Android)

5. The Future of Phoneography

Phoneography is a new trend that is sweeping the globe. The main reason behind this trend is the accessibility of smartphones. With the Internet’s proliferation, it has become almost impossible for people to miss out on photos taken by their smartphones.

And with all the advanced and sophisticated cameras being sold in the market, people thought that taking pictures with smartphones is as easy as snapping a photo with their camera.

From my own perspective, with the increasing amount of better software editing tools and well-built smartphone cameras, it will probably be making the world of conventional DSLR cameras photography to the point of extinction. I mean at this age of technology, everyone's a photographer in their own right as compared to decades ago, only a handful of trained individuals are called the legit photographer. Innovations do come at a price I guess.
