My Winter Wonderland. Top Story - January 2025.
I love snow. I've come to learn that it's not a popular opinion among adults in my part of the world. And I do understand why. It causes a lot of problems: slick roads, downed power lines, roof damages. It also slows everything down. But I think I rather appreciate that part. I also think it's beautiful. I'm of the mindset that if it's going to be freezing outside it might as well look pretty.

While on a bridge
“I’ve always loved days like this.” “What do you mean?” “When the sky is black and there’s still light from the sun.” . The truth was she loved and cherished contrasts. They were somehow an expression of her self. She had always been this bookworm, the perfect student with a promising career, but at the same time her thirst for freedom had lately taken the lead. In this she was his mentor. He had only known about school, school and school and then the world of academia: he was about to finish his PhD in Quantum Physics. They met in a conference at the university. They clicked after a brief exchange and after a couple of months of attending events together, she told him she was leaving soon to South America and he decided to join. “I’ve never done something like this before and I think I should,” those were his words; though his intentions were indeed of a different nature.

Jackie. Runner-Up in Through the Lens Challenge.
The cottage we rented stood proud and pale atop thick wooden pilings just past the dunes of the beachhead which were feathered in salt grass and stirred by the winds of the Atlantic Ocean just beyond. Fenwick Island, New Jersey. The waves in their quiet thunder sounded in a rhythmic pulse like a time keeper of the world as our dog Anya bounded exuberant into the foaming surf yet having no concept of such a thing for she had never seen an ocean. This vast nameless thing of power, delight and beauty. And in much the same way I encountered my own unseen ocean. Something I had never beheld as well - I found myself in love with an older woman – She was 14 and I was 10. Her name was Jackie. It was 1977.

A Shadow
Young enough to cause trouble and old enough to be trusted unsupervised, I broke off from the pack of students I was supposed to be with, feigning having to use the bathroom. A quick hop and a skip, and I was off. I didn't like that we had to digest art according to rules on a paper and I didn't like that I was here to fill out twenty questions about dates and locations, not the art itself.

The Elusive Giants
These elusive giants are so very easily seen from the air. They rise above the clouds without any effort. I could not look away from the peaks. The ground was pretty enough, but the power of rising above gave the mountains the allure of invincibility. You cannot miss such a site. Yet, by their sheer size, they could still be hidden at times. I could stare at this view all day. It was a moment of excitement to enter a new state. This site was a welcome to my vacation to Oregon and Washington. It was the best picture I have ever seen from the air. I can still remember the day fondly.

Soul Companion; Shaman Ayes
Congratulations, Einstein, yes, I am a cat! Beyond the obvious observation, can you hold my gaze while I tell you about myself? No, I cannot talk, per se, however, my mum of a different breed channels my innermost thoughts. Marilyn is not my owner; I am not a pet. A cat shall never be owned. Instead, she is my soul companion, my human counterpart, my protege, dare I say, who holds all my knowledge.

A Solitary Place
When I think of a special place where I can be free of everything from the outside world it would be a place like this. I know some might say why the swamp, and there are a bunch of whys, of why I would come to a place like this. One of the main reasons is that the second I arrive, and I hop out of my car all I can hear is nothing. It’s like an ASMR video where all you can hear are the sounds of nature from crickets, frogs, barred owls, and even the sound of rushing water from the river. For me this location is everything I need. When I first visited this location where my Airbnb is that I frequently rent out when I want to escape from everything, I was taken back at how almost secluded it was. Even though there were a few houses close nearby on a long dirt road it was perfect. I made so many memories just staying in this little cabin on the river.
