A picture is worth a thousand words, and family pictures are no different. Some people get them done every season, while others only do them for Christmas or New Years. They are one of the best ways to document you and your family as they grow every year. It can be stressful to try to plan these pictures that will last a lifetime, so here are a few ways to make this process as seamless as possible.

Choose A Photographer And A Date.

A photographer is probably the most important part of getting your pictures taken. Without a good photographer, there will be no pictures to be had. You will want to look at their portfolio and decide if family photos are their specialties. Most good photographers will get booked up pretty quickly, so make sure you choose a date and book them.

Pick Out Good Outfits

You want to pick out nice clothes that are coordinating but not matching. The days of everyone wearing the same exact clothes are a thing of the past. Accessories are an important part of any outfit, and they can really add a lot to the photos. Kids can play with necklaces or cover up with a cute hat. You will want to avoid characters like Mickey Mouse or Toy Story. No matter how good of an idea you think it is, they can take the attention away from you.

Get Haircuts, But Not The Same Day.

It can be tempting to stop by the hairdresser the morning before you head to your photo opt. You want to have a fresh new hairdo, but you don’t want to end up with something bad and be stuck with it. If you go a couple of days before your pictures, your hair can at least grow about a little bit.

You will want to choose a haircut that looks best on you, depending on your face shape and hair type will determine what looks best. If your husband is starting to lose hair, you will want to find styles that make him look and feel confident. So, what are some trendy hairstyles and haircuts for balding men? The best ones are a comb-over, slicked back, crewcut, short pomp, spikes, or even just a simple buzzcut.

Choose A Location.

Location can really add a lot to the photo, so you will want to pick a good one. You don’t want a super busy background. If you are in a public place like a beach or park you may run into strangers being in the background so be aware of them. Many photographers have a handful of places that they have found are best for specific photo sessions like family photos or engagement sessions. A lot of photographers also have a wide variety of backdrops to choose from, so the choice is all yours.

Be Comfortable.

It is pretty easy to tell if someone is uncomfortable in a photo. There is something in their body language that just makes the whole picture odd. You don’t want your family pictures to give off edgy or tense vibes, especially if you are sending them to your family as a card. So, make sure you and your family are comfortable with your photographer and at a location that they feel comfortable at.

Take Great Pictures That Last A Lifetime.

Family photos are a great way to document your family throughout your whole life. Grab the best photographer you can find, get some cute clothes, and pick out a good location and you’ll be ready for photos. These photos are a great way to document your family as you begin to grow.
