On July 4, 2022, BOYA introduced the latest products of XM6 series wireless microphone system, BY-XM6-S series and BY-XM6-K series. Users can choose USB-C interface receiver or Apple Lightening interface receiver, as well as 1 drag 1 or 1 drag 2 version. The biggest difference between the two series is that BY-XM6-K includes a charging box, which can replenish power anytime and anywhere and provide storage function.

Take BOYA BY-XM6-S3 as an example for simple evaluation, that is, the 1-to-2 version of USB-C interface.

The BY-XM6-S3 specifically includes a receiver, two transmitters, a USB-C data cable × 2, a lavalier microphone × 2, two 3.5mm audio cables of different specifications, and a wire storage bag.

About BY-XM6-S Series

First of all, the front of the transmitter of BY-XM6-S series is equipped with an OLED display screen, which can more intuitively understand the signal strength and remaining power. The back is a collar clip and a metal contact (responsible for connecting with the charging box for charging).

At the top is a microphone and a 3.5mm audio input connector. There are three physical function keys on the side, which are operated by long press and short press.

The other side is the USB-C interface, which can charge the transmitter. As a wireless microphone, battery life is also very important, and officials claim that it can be used for about 7 hours at full charge, which is enough to cope with most use scenarios.

The BOYA BY-XM6 microphone features an omnidirectional polar pattern with 6 levels of gain adjustment. At the same time, 2.4GHz wireless transmission technology is adopted, and the barrier-free transmission distance can reach up to 100 meters. Unfortunately, the BY-XM6-S3 does not support radio noise reduction.

The receiver of BOYA BY-XM6-S series is simpler in appearance and keys. In addition to the USB-C plug connected with the device, there is a 3.5mm headphone interface, M/S switch key (mono and stereo switch) and power switch. The antenna symbol on the right side of the receiver is the location of the PIFA antenna.

The bottom of the USB-C plug of the receiver has been raised, and even if the mobile phone shell is installed, it can be directly inserted and used. This small design is very commendable. Of course, as a wireless microphone positioned for live broadcast, vlog shooting and other scenes, BY-XM6 can truly achieve "plug and play" in use. Its operation is also very simple. For the first time, you only need to connect the receiver to the mobile phone and computer, and then adjust the transmitter to the power-on state. When the prompt light at the receiving end is always on, the microphone connection is successful. (Some phones need to turn on OTG)

In addition to being plug-and-play in computers and most mobile phones, the BY-XM6 can also switch between mono and stereo modes with the M/S key. With the included 3.5mm adapter cable, the receiver can also be connected to cameras, recording pens and other devices.

The 1 drag 2 version is more suitable for interviews, dialogues and other shooting scenes, and can be set to stereo mode when shooting, which is convenient for later editing. Of course, you can choose your own version according to your own equipment and usage scenarios. BOYA BY-XM6-S series, as an external radio device featuring short video, live broadcast and vlog shooting, is more in line with expectations in terms of sound quality and delay performance. Of course, it also has some noteworthy points.

Points to note:

-Unable to record while charging: When the mobile phone is connected for use, because the receiving end occupies the charging interface, it is necessary to ensure that the mobile phone has sufficient power before recording.

-Fewer adjustable parameter options: only support gain adjustment, mute, mono stereo switching, no noise reduction function.

-Some phones require OTG to be turned on before connection.

BY-XM6-S Series Charging Box

In addition to the BY-XM6 of this experience, we also received a charging box specially adapted to the BY-XM6-S series. The charging box is made of plastic, weighs 195 G, and has a built-in 3000mAh battery.

When using, press the switch key to open the battery compartment, and the side is the power detection key, power indicator and USB-C charging interface (up to 5V = 1.5A).

A sponge is attached to the top of the charging compartment, which makes the transmitter and receiver more stable when the lid is closed. The charging mode of magnetic contact is adopted in the placement slot, which can fully charge the two transmitters twice. When charging, the emitter will also display an animation to indicate the current state.

BY-XM6-S and BY-XM6-K series continue the advantages of Boya wireless microphone, such as fashionable shape, compact size and easy to use, which can bring significant improvement to the radio quality of short video, live broadcasting, online classes and other scenes. According to the design of USB-C interface and Lightening interface, BY-XM6-S and BY-XM6-K series are more inclined to mobile devices and light photography. Friends who mainly use mobile phones or computers to operate directly can pay attention to it.
