A Day with Alexa, Germain and Yuval
Part of “Fashion Figures”
It seems that whenever I’m around Germain and Yuval, a couple based in Honduras and Israel respectively, the days seem brighter, both metaphorically and literally.
Let me explain: we embarked on a photo shoot on a late November day where the high was 60 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s right, 60 degrees. The sun was beaming and as clouds started to form, what seemed like rays from heaven descended towards the horizon.
That’s the literal side of bright. The couple’s infectious energy and pure souls really do brighten up one’s day. Germain’s sister Alexa completed the trio with her youth, charisma and joy. This was a very memorable photo session.
Alexa, Germain and Yuval were all doing yoga before our session. As I introduced myself to Alexa, who was fully decked out in exercise clothing, I could feel her warm energy. Her Honduran accent wasn’t too thick but still noticeable as she greeted me.
“Hello Darius ( she pronounced it Daruse which I found very cool) looking forward to this, (the photo session) my brother and Yuval are coming too, right?”
That initial greeting was a very memorable first impression, as Alexa went ahead and continued her core yoga training soon after. That was around 12pm, and it wasn’t until a paddle board session, yes, we paddle boarded in late November, where the true fun with photography began, and let me just express that the three of them went all in.
Germain wore green trousers a shirt adorned with flowers, bright orange socks and a navy blazer. Yuval was dressed in a striped shirt and a long accent cardigan with lots of flow. The real winner here was Germain’s sister though. As she rocked a Japanese-inspired green outfit with a dazzling head piece remenesent of a royal crown from the Middle East or Asia.
As stated before, the weather was on our side today, but so was the location. At the Jamesport Bay Suites, access to the beach and water was available. The four of us took advantage of the convienent circumstances surrounding the session.
Alexa was the first to be photographed. She had a level of comfort in front of the lens that I’ve rarely had the opportunity of working with. In front of a matching green shrub, we channeled color theory beautifully.
As I showed her the first batch of photos, she couldn’t help but smile.
“These are extraordinary, yes!”
Her glee was of course welcome, and it boosted my motivation to provide great results even more.
Next up was Germain, and he is, and always will be, a pleasure to work with. There is a time when you meet a soul whose creative energy pulls you in a inspires you to be more. Germain is that creative soul for me.
“So fierce! I love it.”
Much like his sister, Germain’s joy for my work reply touched my heart, and I couldn’t wait to photograph them again when the conditions aligned.
The photo day ended with laughs and love, as all four of us looked towards the ocean, rays of light peering through the clouds. I couldn’t have asked for a better trio to photograph.
For a more technical outlook, I used the Fujifilm X100V digital camera. A 26 megapixel digital rangefinder with a new and improved 23mm f2 integrated lens. The colors were magical and the lightweight body made it easy to use during the long photo session.
