I saw this vocal challenge and an immediate thought entered my mind; the time my dog gave me a cookie. You’re probably thinking: “yeah okay” in the most sarcastic tone possible. Most people think chihuahuas are vicious little barking four-legged menaces in my case that is so the opposite of accurate, it makes me laugh. Nacho is my chihuahuas name it fits him perfectly. He is not too small for a chihuahua as I have seen smaller. My chihuahua is the type of dog who asks to be let out simply to bark at nothing for thirty seconds and then is already begging to come inside the house. He is the sweetest little dog ever and he is even alive to this day. Around this time I was still living at home since I was in high school. It was the year 2011 and I was the last one of my siblings to be still attending high school. Having siblings can be a tricky subject and I tend to have a sweet tooth. I had bought myself a pack of chips ahoy but not the regular pack. It was the chunky chips ahoy, which is even better. I hid them in them in my room for fearing that my sisters would find them and eat them all before I had even one, so this time I would not be making that mistake again. I Kept them in one of my larger purses and once in a while I would carefully peel back the wrapping and carefully without making any noise sneak a cookie into my mouth while studying. The purse where I kept my cookies was kept on the floor by my desk.

One day, I was rushing for school. I forgot that I had band practice that day and I had not set an alarm to wake me up. With a rush I put on yesterday’s clothes and dashed to the car where my dad was waiting for me. I hopped in and he dropped me off at school. I went into the girl’s washroom and combed out my hair and headed for practice. It was fine, then my classes began and and I trudged through the day going from one class to another and not paying attention to any of my classes. I met with my friends at lunch and laughed and giggled all the way to drama class. Finally, the bell rang for dismissal and I beat the rush, managing to catch the early bus home. I came home and I opened the door to see my dog wagging his tail violently, he slipped by me and headed for a day of exploring in the backyard. He sniffed and peed on nearly everything that was standing, he rushed towards me to receive a few pets.

Nacho went into my bedroom where he suddenly changed his demeanor and the look of guilt was written all over his face, his ears plummeted to his skull and his tail stopped wagging. I saw the destruction that he had left, they were my cookies and were strewn across the floor, with a bite from here and there in all of the cookies. My carpet was a mess with crumbs and chocolate melting to my carpet. I cleaned up the broken and half eaten cookies and threw them in the trash. What other choice did I have? I brushed off the bits of chocolate with some carpet spray. That left me about an hour before any of my family members were expected to be home. It was the perfect opportunity to sit down in front of the television in my dad’s chair. I found the remote and with an exasperated sigh sat down and turned on the television.

My dog oddly enough disappeared into his crate, he did not like spending time in there at all. I was paying attention to the television and I felt something on my knee. I looked down on my knee and there was a full cookie. My dog was perched on the couch beside me looking at me with expecting eyes. I was suddenly reminded of the scene from the animation film “How to train Your Dragon” when the dragon gave Hiccup(the main character) a dead fish and wanted him to eat it. Nacho had the same expression on his face. I picked up the cookie and he happily danced on the couch waiting for me to be grateful for bringing me this gift. I nibbled off a little bit and then I could not force myself to eat the rest of the cookie for it was in my dog’s mouth, but his eyes grew sad as I got up to toss it out and I ate and showed him it was all gone and that there was no more left but holding up my hands and showing it to him. He then happily went into his bed and fell asleep. Mission accomplished is what he was thinking as he fell asleep with a stomach filled with cookies.
