Cats In 'Nam

The Cats I Capture on My Morning Walks

I do not have a pet but have been a dog person in the past but lots of my friends and neighbours have cats.

When Covid hit I started working from home, but before that often used to walk to work.

Walking through urban areas, fields and parklands bring me into fairly close contact with a lot of wild ( and domestic) animal life.

🐎 🐄

I often meet up with cattle on Nunsmoor , and the reality is that any one of these animals is well capable of doing me serious damage even to the point of killing me , but I always make sure I have a decent escape route. I have always been at ease with most animals , apart from horses and ponies that have a penchant for biting me My daughter Juliet is completely opposite in that she is totally at ease with horses and ponies but very scared of cattle.

🐶

The number of times that I have been warned about vicious scary dogs , after playing with them for an age , I have lost count. I may have the odd graze from a play bite but I have never been attacked by a dog , and find all of the cute and lovely.

Now to the crux of this piece #CatsInNam . My mate Andy refers to my home suburb of Fenham as 'Nam , obviously confusing world readers as to where we are talking about. My friend Yen wondered what I was doing in VietNam , but to be honest , with Instagram you can put your location ass anywhere , even the moon!!

🐱

On my walks I often see cats , and to be honest these are animals that have drawn blood from me. I visited a friend and her cat jumped across me and I fell a slight scarch, nothing major. When got home and stopped ready for bed my upper thigh was lacerated , lightly but noticeably.

When I walk and see cats, I try to photograph them . Sometimes they sit and pose , sometimes they just run off , sometimes they think I have food for them. I get a lot around Fenham and share the images and a few videos on Instagram with the #CatsinNam hashtag .

Cats only tolerate humans because they don't have opposable thumbs …. yet.

🐱

Dogs love humans , cats tolerate them

🐶

Whenever I catch one on my phone it does put me in a good mood for the workday, and when I go out for my morning walk I always hope to see a cat and get a decent picture .

🐱

Cats are so independent that's why I see them in so many places , some expected some unexpected which is why some times I get multiple pictures or videos of the same cat. I usually post in batches , to vary the group and make it more interesting.

The way cats move and pose make them perfect for photographing. I have tried with birds , dogs , cattle , and more but cats do make the best subjects.

I am not a cat or a dog person , but like both animals though I could not give them the attention they would need. I don't know if that makes me an evil person, I'm probably just selfish and lazy.

Since working from home, I connect with co-workers on Teams calls , and very often I see them with their pets , dogs, barking and wanting attention , cats sitting on keyboards and filling the screens, these are people who love and give attention to their pets and provide a little entertainment for everyone on calls.

I am happy with my #CatsinNam and we will include "Lucifer Sam" by Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd.

I really like how you add music to your posts… never heard this song before, but now I’m adding it to my Spotify

Great piece,,can relate..really a dog person but don't have the apartment and funds for a big dog. The neighborhood cat takes refuge from the cold under my lawn chair..and tears apart the bunnies in the yard. Grrr!
