8 Ways to Celebrate National Kitten Day

How to Make Your Kittens Feel Extra Special on the Cutest Day of the Year.

By Jesse McDanielPublished about a year ago 4 min read

Talk about the most adorable pets, and kittens would instantly pop up in your mind. Their tiny pinkish paws, flurry body, big eyes, and even bigger head on that tiny body, makes them look so precious. However, while they are capable of easily making their way into our hearts, there are several of them that don’t find homes.

National Kitten Day was introduced to spread awareness about the plight of these kittens and to encourage people across America to adopt kittens from rescue shelters instead of purchasing them. And if they don’t have time or resources to make such a long-term commitment, they can still help the cause by volunteering in some rescue shelters or donating some amount.

In this article, we have brought to you some of the ways you can make this National Kitten Day a memorable experience of your life irrespective of whether you are a cat parent, or not.

1. Pamper Your Kitty

What’s a more convenient excuse than National Kitten Day to spoil your little fur baby? This July, pamper these lovelies by treating them to their favorite food, and toys, playing with them, and participating in lots of fun activities with them.

You can also gift them with some comfortable sleeping and hiding places like cat caves. Yes! We all know how much our kittens love these. Make them feel that it’s their day and pamper them all day. Shower them with things they love.

2. Take Your Kitten to a Vet

This day is also a reminder that you should take your kitten or cat to the vet. Even if your pet seems healthy, you must take your cat to the vet for a regular checkup at least twice a year. As for kittens, you should take them to a vet every two to four weeks until they are 16 months of age.

3. Volunteer at Your Local Pet Shelter or Kitten Rescue Center

Another great idea for this Kitten Day is to volunteer at a pet shelter or a kitten rescue center. These places also have options for long-term commitments. They might offer you to spend around 3 to 5 hours a month, during which you can participate in various jobs like cleaning cages or litter boxes, playing with kittens, taking care of them, feeding them, etc. They will train you for everything.

4. Click Some Pictures

Click some pictures with your feline buds. This would serve as one of the perfect occasions to create memory and hang on that wall in your gallery lane, or on your bedside table. You can also post them on social media.

5. Adopt a Feline Baby From the Pet Shelters

If you don’t yet have cats, and/or are looking for some pets to add to your life, it is best if you adopt them from some pet shelters. This way you can give a good life to a kitten that is actually in need.

Before bringing a new member to your house, make sure you are well prepared. You are going to be their companion for life. So you should give proper thought to the long-term commitment. If it will be your first time adopting a cat, you must do thorough research beforehand.

6. Groom Them for the day

It is no news that these notorious self-groomers spend a significant amount of time grooming themselves every day. However, a little assistance here and there from their pet parents would make it so much better for them. Grooming felines doesn’t require much but serves a great deal when it comes to benefits.

Just by brushing your cat, you can remove dead hair and dander from their coat, and stimulate their skin to produce oil, resulting in a shinier and healthier coat. It will allow you to quickly examine your cat’s eyes, ears, mouth, etc., and look for fleas and ticks.

7. Time for a Catnip Probably?

Catnip is an herb from the mint family that when given in even small amounts, can make your cat’s playtime so much more fun. Cats love catnips because it stimulates them and makes them roll on the ground, drool, mash their face, etc.

8. Make a Donation to the Local Pet Shelters

Another great way of celebrating this day is to make some donations to the local, national, or international non-profit organizations that work to rescue and take care of cats. Your donation, whether small or big, would support the plight of kittens.

Conclusion

This National Kitten Day, spread awareness amongst your peers and social connections about the plight of several abandoned kittens. Use hashtags like #NationalKittenDay #KittenDay #AdoptdontShop, etc. to add posts on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. A little step from you can make a huge difference in the life of some abandoned kitten.
