Nowadays, it is not difficult to fight fleas as effective flea control products are available in stores. However, some commercial products contain toxic and dangerous chemicals that are harmful to our dogs, and using them could be risky, especially if you have kids. In this article, we will share some natural and potent flea treatments for dogs that you can safely use at home without worrying about harmful chemicals.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Flea Deterrent

Apple cider vinegar is the best flea treatment and canine flea control solution. To make this natural home solution for your dog, you will need one teaspoon of raw organic apple cider vinegar and 1 quart of water. Add one teaspoon of raw organic apple cider vinegar to one quarter of your dog's drinking water. Apple cider vinegar is affordable and has many benefits for your dog's health. It helps in better circulation of blood, aids in proper joint function, and helps in treating skin issues like hot spots and dander.

2. Flea Repellent Collar for Dogs

A flea repellent collar is not just the best flea remedy but also an effective prevention for dogs. You will need five to six drops of lavender oil, one-half cup of water, and a bandana or a piece of cloth to wrap around your dog's neck area. Mix four to six drops of lavender oil and three to four tablespoons of water. Soak the bandana or cloth piece into this solution and tie it around your dog's neck or apply this solution to the bandana or cloth piece using a spray bottle or a tablespoon. Repeat this procedure once a week to keep fleas away from your dog.

3. Flea Deterring Rinse for Dogs

With just one ingredient, this amazing flea deterring rinse is the best flea treatment for dogs. You will need 1 cup of raw organic apple cider vinegar or one cup of white vinegar and 1 quart of fresh water. Mix one cup of raw organic apple cider vinegar or distilled white vinegar in one quart of lukewarm water and use this to rinse your dog after every bath. Pour this vinegar mixture all over your dog and give a good rub to make sure the mixture penetrates down the skin. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly with fresh water. If you don't want your dog to smell unpleasant and vinegary, you can fill this mixture in a spray bottle and use it all over your dog's skin several times a day for quick results.

4. Flea Repellent and Purple Shampoo for Dogs

You will need:

- 1 teaspoon raw organic apple cider vinegar

- 1/2 cup vegetable glycerin

- 1/2 cup Castile soap

- 2-3 drops lemon essential oil

- 3-4 drops peppermint essential oil

- 1 cup distilled water

Directions:

In a bowl, combine 1 cup distilled water, 1/2 cup Castile soap, 1/2 cup vegetable glycerin, 1 teaspoon raw organic apple cider vinegar, 3-4 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil. Whisk well.

Note: Never apply essential oils directly to your dog. Always dilute them before use.

Pour the mixture into an empty container. While bathing your dog, use this flea repellent herbal shampoo and massage it well.

Rinse thoroughly with water. This shampoo is totally natural and safe to use on your dog.

5. Anti-Flea Biscuits for Dogs

You will need:

2 cups flour

1 1/2 cups wheat germ

1 1/2 cups brewer's yeast

1 cup chicken broth

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions:

Put all the dry ingredients in a large bowl and combine well.

In another bowl, add the vegetable oil and chicken broth and mix well.

Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and knead into a smooth dough.

Sprinkle some dry flour and roll this dough on a flat surface up to 1/2 inch thick.

Cut with the help of a cutter.

In a preheated oven, bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until the biscuits are brown.

These are not only anti-flea biscuits but healthy for your dog too.

Besides these safe and natural home remedies, the best thing to keep fleas at bay is by regularly brushing and bathing your dog, vacuuming and washing your pet's bedding more often, and by keeping the grass and shrubs where your pet hangs out short.
