Encouragable Thistle

Thought we’d start off the new month doing something unique – at least to us, a sort of blog about the goings on at ours, so here goes.

1 March 2023 – The attempts to get up the Mistress after thirty minutes of trying were finally successful. I, Stirling, jumped up on the bed and licked her hand while Thistle squirmed around on the Mistress’s feet. Despite her having a headache, she finally got up, dressed herself and us, then we headed out the door to the grassy spot at the top of the street. We have a garden, but it’s not as big as the one we had before. It’s usually a quiet street, there’s a few other dogs that live on it, but we don’t usually interact with them, as they can be kinda mean if the wind blows the wrong way.

Thistle started her pretty sitting and asking to be off-lead for the ball throwing time and the Mistress allowed her to be once she watered the grass. Mistress lengthened my lead and it allowed me to sniff further afield and do my business, which Mistress quickly picked up.

After Thistle was tired enough to lie down and not bring the ball back, Mistress gave the command and Thistle came back, reluctantly gave the ball back and was hooked onto the belt lead that Mistress wears. Then we walked on a bit more on the grassy area, Thistle did her business and that was picked up as well as someone else’s mess that was left behind.

(We really don’t understand how Britain can be a dog loving country and not pick up after their dogs do their business, whether it’s on grass or not, as it can make other dogs sick if they’re not taught to ‘leave it’.)

Anyway, we made our way off the grassy area, over to the bin and waited while Mistress put the business bags in. Then we did a ’round the short block’ walk on pavement to grind our nails down nicely.

After getting back to ours, Mistress unhooked the belt from her, moved the bin out to the pavement for pickup, then took our vests off, opened the door and we were given our teeth brushing treats, our anti-allergy treats, breakfasts, and now we’re off to snooze and watch the bin men come by, but not necessarily in that order.

It’s the 2nd of March, 2023. On this morning’s walk, Thistle was annoyingly encouragable as she wanted only to play with her ball on the grassy area. Mistress made her wait until after she did her businesses, then we went up on the hill and the ball play commenced. Mistress allowed me a longer lead as usual, but since I stay close to her anyway, she didn’t feel the need to let me off lead, which is fine, I feel safer still being linked to her. I did my businesses, numerous times, much to Mistress’ dislike, but hey, I gotta do what I gotta do! Thistle on the other hand was racing back and forth, up and down the hill, as usual, and got tired quickly. We had a challenger walking by with the wee ones to school, and she barked at us. I barked back once, and Mistress called Thistle over to reconnect to us for safety. Thistle for once actually listened and came over, on the first call. She didn’t want to give up the ball though, but eventually did. We walked the rest of the way around the grassy area, slowly so Mistress did not slip, she wouldn’t have anyway since she was wearing her hikers. We did a short block walk on loose lead, much to Mistress’ pleasure, but we went into the bigger park where there’s a huge cage. Mistress let us both off lead and we all played ball. Thistle accidentally let hers go outside the cage and Mistress went and got it, we stayed inside the cage as requested. Then after we were both tired out, we walked home. Anti-allergy capsules eaten, teeth brushed, fur wiped down, now to nap while Mistress does her work. Laters! x
