Have you ever wondered what the weirdest birds in the world look like? Originating from different parts of the world, these extremely rare birds impress with their strange color, behavior, and appearance.

HERE ARE THE 10 MOST BIZARIOUS BIRDS ON THE PLANET

1. KAKAPO

Also called the owl parrot, the kakapo is a flightless, nocturnal bird native to New Zealand.

It can grow up to 63 centimeters in height, is one of the heaviest birds in the world and is classified as a parrot. It mates only three times every 10 years.

2. LONG UMBRELLA BIRD (CEPHALOPTERUS PENDULIGER)

It is called the umbrella bird because of its crest, which looks like an umbrella, and the chest from which a feather tube extends.

It is native to Ecuador and Colombia, and males attract their partners by dancing.

3. GREAT SCRUBBING

Originally from the subtropical coasts of the Pacific and Atlantic, this red-necked bird has a large piece of red skin that swells to a ridiculous size when trying to attract a mate.

Their wings have been shown solely to give a sense of proportion.

4. THE KING OF SAXONIA, THE BIRD OF PARADISE (PTERIDOPHORA ALBERTI)

The Bird of Paradise is native to the mountain forests of New Guinea. What is bizarre about her is the strange sound she makes and the long feathers coming out of her crest.

The adult King of Saxony bird-of-paradise is around 22 cm long. The male has a dark brown iris, brownish-grey legs, a black bill with a vivid aqua-green gape, and two extremely long (up to 50 cm) scalloped, enamel-blue brow-plumes that can be raised at the bird's discretion. The unadorned female has banded underparts and is greyish brown in color.

The male's ornate head plumes are so unusual that the first specimen brought to Europe was mistaken for a fake.

5. SABOT POULTRY

Originally from Central and East Africa, the Sabot bird reaches a height of 140 cm and a weight of 6.7 kg.

This bird has one of the largest beaks of all the birds on the planet, with a length of about 30 centimeters and is shaped like a shoe. The beak is completed by a terribly sharp hook, designed to catch fish, snakes and other small animals.

6. MARABOU STORK

It is a sedentary, stork-like African bird of the stork family and is native to Tropical Africa.

The marabou stork is a huge bird, with mature specimens reaching 152 cm in height and weighing 9 kg. Fisher and Peterson listed the species as having the biggest wing-spread of any living bird, with a wingspan of 3.7 m. Even higher measurements have been recorded, up to 4.06 m, though no measurement over 3.20 m has been validated. It is sometimes touted with having the widest spread of any landbird, rivaling the Andean condor; however, these storks normally measure 225–287 cm (7–9 ft) across the wings, approximately a foot less than the average Andean condor wingspan and over two feet less than the largest albatrosses and pelicans.

7. HOATZIN

Originally from North and South Central America, this dinosaur-like pheasant lives in groups in the swamps of the Amazon Basin.

At Lake Sandoval, Peru

With a total length of 65 cm, a long neck, and a small head, the hoatzin is comparable to a pheasant. It has an unfeathered blue face with maroon eyes and a spiky, rufous crest on top of its head. The buff tail is a long, sooty-brown tail with a wide tip. On the wing coverts, the upper regions are dark, sooty-brown with buff edges, and streaked buff on the mantle and neck. The crissum, primaries, underwing coverts, and sides are rich rufous-chestnut, but this is only visible when it opens its wings. The hoatzin is a herbivore that eats leaves and fruit, and it has an unusual digestive system that includes an expanded crop for fermenting plant waste.

8. SAGEHEN (CENTROCERCUS UROPHASIANUS)

Originally from North America, this bird is known for the bags it has around its neck, which swell extremely when trying to attract a female partner.

It has a huge body, a small head and some interesting and spiky feathers on the back.

9. CONDOR CALIFORNIAN

It is a species of bird of prey, native to North America, the Pacific coast and is the second largest bird in the world. It feeds on dead animals and can live up to 60 years.

10. THE HORN'S HORN (BUCEROS RHINOCEROS)

Not for nothing is it one of the most bizarre birds on the planet.

Originally from Southeast Asia, this bird spends its days wandering around tropical mountain forests and is known for its false beak above its real beak. It is a small red and orange horn, used to amplify its voice so that all the animals in the forest can hear it screaming.
