SI1 clarity diamonds are a great choice if you want to get the best deal on your engagement ring. But how do you know when you're getting an SI1 VS VS1 clarity diamonds, not just any old SI2?

Check out this guide to shopping for SI1 clarity diamonds from James Allen Jewelry so you can feel confident about your purchase and ensure you're getting exactly what you want for the best price possible! (Diamond photo courtesy of James Allen.)

What are SI clarity diamonds?

SI clarity diamonds are those given a grade of SI1 clarity diamonds or SI2 for diamond clarity. To be given this grade, a diamond must have noticeable inclusions when viewed under 10x magnification.

However, these inclusions should not be visible to the naked eye. SI1 clarity diamonds are a great option for balancing quality and price. Here at James Allen, we have a great selection of SI1 clarity diamonds at all different price points.

When shopping for an SI1 clarity diamond, the Four Cs must be kept in mind. The Four Cs of diamonds stands for Carat, Cut, Clarity, and Color. Carat weight is how a diamond is measured and the diamond's size.

Cut refers to how well a diamond is polished and how good a sparkle is. James Allen only carries diamonds with excellent cut grades, allowing us to pass savings on to you.

Our diamonds are graded by GIA (The Gemological Institute of America), ensuring they meet high-quality standards.

Colour is one of three factors used when grading clarity, which assesses whether or not inclusions are visible in a diamond under 10x magnification. Our collection includes diamonds ranging from colourless (D colour and higher) to near-colorless (G-H colour). Last is clarity, which refers to any inclusions inside your diamond.

SI vs VS Diamonds

When it comes to diamonds, clarity is king. And the top of the clarity totem pole is SI1 clarity diamonds , or Slightly Included 1. These are high-quality diamonds with few inclusions, making them sparkle like mad. But they don't come cheap.

The next tier above SI in diamond clarity is VS, or Very Slightly Included. These diamonds have even fewer inclusions, but they come at a price. Typically, you'll choose between an SI and VS diamond when shopping.

But sometimes, you can find a great deal by picking up an SI2, which saves 16% off an SI1 clarity diamonds . Still not convinced? Look no further than this gorgeous James Allen stone from their website: It's an SI2 and only costs $4,670!

The problem with an SI2 is that it comes at a cost. The savings you get may not be worth it. Sometimes even a tiny inclusion can ruin your stone's sparkle. In general, diamonds of higher clarity will have more sparkle than lower-clarity stones, which goes double for SI1 clarity diamonds .

When shopping around, ask if you can compare a low-clarity diamond and a high-clarity diamond side by side to see what each looks like in person.

If an eye dropper full of water won't dampen your stone's shine in an SI1 clarity diamonds or VS compared to an SI2 or lower, then you know your money is well spent!

What does diamond clarity SI1 mean?

When it comes to shopping for diamonds, clarity is one of the 4 Cs you should take into consideration. The clarity of a diamond is judged on a 6-point scale from included (I1, I2, and I3) to flawless (FL).

SI1 clarity diamonds are slightly included and fall in the middle of the scale. This means inclusions can be found with a standard jeweller's 10x magnification. Still, they are not visible to the naked eye.

The best way to better understand diamond clarity is by comparing SI1 clarity diamonds with two lower-clarity options. An SI2 clarity diamond will have inclusions visible with a standard jeweller's 10x magnification.

In contrast, an I1 will have inclusions easily seen by the naked eye. Choosing a lower-clarity diamond can save you some money, but they come with less beauty and sometimes durability concerns. So if you're set on purchasing an SI1 clarity diamond, there's no need to break your budget — our Deals page is full of rings under $4,000 that meet your requirements.

The 4Cs in Detail: Carat Weight

Carat weight is how a diamond is measured and the diamond's size. The price of a diamond increases with its carat weight, so two diamonds of equal carat weight can have different prices.

The price also depends on the quality of the cut, colour, and clarity. So, while two diamonds may have equal carat weights, one may be of better quality and, therefore, more expensive.

The 4Cs in Detail: Cut

The cut of a diamond is how well the diamond has been cut and includes the height, depth, angles, and other factors. It affects the diamond's symmetry, brightness, fire, and how sparkly it appears.

The 4Cs in Detail: Color

When it comes to colour, diamonds are graded on a scale from D (no hue) to Z (a yellow-hued diamond). Most white diamonds used in engagement rings fall somewhere in the D-J range.

The nearer a diamond is to being colourless, the more valuable it is. However, some shoppers prefer a diamond with a faint hint of colour – these are called fancy coloured diamonds and are quite popular in engagement rings.

The 4Cs in Detail: Clarity

If you're in the market for a diamond, you've probably heard of the Four Cs. The characteristics of diamonds are judged: Carat, Cut, Clarity, and Color. In this post, we'll take a closer look at clarity.
