Some believe that humor is the most powerful weapon in the world. It can instantly improve the mood, create exuberant laughter or just a smiling face.

Any benefits are all positive.

Humor has always played a significant role in human existence. Since we have used it in literature for so long, humor has developed into a vital tool in contemporary communication.

Often, our immediate coping strategy for dealing with challenging circumstances is humor. We can use it therapeutically and to express feelings that are otherwise difficult to articulate.

Humor has the power to unite people and even tear down barriers between opposing sides.

Humor undermines stress.

Humor has a crucial role to play in our lives.

Psychologists certainly view humor as an effective technique for handling trauma and stress. A touch of humor always helps us to feel better about ourselves. We then see the lighter side of our situation.

It enhances social relationships. Being humorous may increase your persuasiveness, likeability, and general appeal to others.

Humor’s importance comes from both its positive effects on individuals and the negative effects of not having one.

For instance, if you are always serious, other people may consider you uninteresting or aloof and unapproachable.

We all face stressful circumstances in our lives: humor helps us to handle them in a better more positive way.

The sense of humor test.

This simple test can help you decide whether your sense of humour is weak.

Be honest now!

Do you frequently find yourself the target of jokes?

Do you frequently feel excluded from parties?

Do people frequently comment on how serious you are?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you might not have a good sense of humor.

But, don’t despair because the situation can be improved.

Why develop a sense of humor?

Most of us will agree that humor enhances the quality of life. We feel happier and more upbeat.

It provides us with fresh views and ideas by enabling us to perceive the world differently.

When we’re feeling depressed, down, it can help to tell jokes, make up some funny stories and try to make others laugh. It may take an effort but it will help to chase away the blues.

The medical professionals know that humor is a marvellous medicine.

It helps us to combat stress, eases pain, strengthens the immune system, and improves mental health by producing endorphins that combat despair and anxiety.

Benefits to mental health.

A sense of humor is a fundamental component of being human.

Some advantages of humor for improving mental health and wellbeing are:

... lowering levels of tension and anxiety.

... enhancing and improving mood. From negative to positive.

... increasing tenacity. We can become more resilient to setbacks.

... encouraging stable partnerships. Cheerful people make happy couples who are more likely to develop meaningful relationships.

But you may need to work at it.

It is definitely possible to cultivate and keep a good sense of humor. Some say this is an art form and not just an inherited talent.

As arguably the most essential social lubricant, humor makes life easier for everyone and helps you get through the day. And having a good sense of humor you are more likely to sleep better too.

Here’s a useful tip.

Buy some joke books and before you start the day, before you set off for work, read one or two pages.

I guarantee this will bring a smile to your face and lighten up your mood.

And then you can practice your joke telling skills on your family, friends and colleagues. They’ll either love or hate you for it!

But remember.

“Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry alone.”
