Of course, it is the athlete's full-time job to be the most effective, well-rehearsed machine to amuse a wealthy fan base each week. However, the typical gym rat who spends a fortune on training supplies, vitamins, and gym memberships is in no way comparable to the athlete who builds a physique fit for a Greek god. You can now point the finger at genetics, money, and time, and all of these factors are significant, but I've trained regular tax paying individuals to resemble Greek gods without the use of supplements, a gym membership, or a tone of training equipment. The two main differences are training methodology and discipline.

Athletes must be in the best physical condition and physical shape possible. After all, having their bodies function at their best is part of their profession. The typical gym rat typically desires to have the physique and functional abilities of an athlete, but very seldom succeeds in doing so.

You can now point the finger at genetics, money, and time, and all of these factors are significant, but I've trained regular tax paying individuals to resemble Greek gods without the use of supplements, a gym membership, or a tone of training equipment. The two main differences are training methodology and discipline.

The majority of gym goers perform a few arm curls while wearing a cute little i-pod on their bicep. Bench press a couple times, perform some lat pulls, and if they're really motivated, they might even do some squats. You can tell the difference between an athlete and a gym rat by their different training regimens, but the athlete has the tough discipline to use it nearly every day and with high intensity.

The athletes are exempt from having to work out for 2.5 hours. In fact, the maximum time spent in the weight room at UGA during my employment there was never longer than one hour. Having said that, they did invest time in practise and training. The majority of people don't want to train like athletes since that is how you should train if you want to be a "wrestler" or play "football." This is a lame justification, and I'd advise against complaining when your objectives for reaching that level aren't realised.
