Where My Fairy Godmothers At?

A dream home calls for dream help...

Just To Preface

I like to fancy myself as a rogue and relatively amateur interior designer.

Just give my Pinterest board a look-see and I guarantee you that Joanna Gaines herself would offer me a paid position within her organization or at the very least- an unpaid internship. That's right.

We will actually dig into my Pinterest board here a little later, but first I'd like to talk about fairy godmothers.

'Huh?' Is probably what you're thinking as you're rolling your eyes and scratching your head. But seriously! This is a dream home... is it not?

Well, fairy godmothers- along with the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Santa Claus and Thor's homeland of Asgard- are an entity that I very much wish existed in today's world.

I so covet the good fairies from the 50's hit Sleeping Beauty in all their red, green and blue dressed glory.

Sure, I would love the gifts of beauty and song, but what I would really love as a grown woman in her twenties with things to do are three awesome au pairs! And don't judge, people. They have wands so it would take them no time at all.

Flora, with a whisk of her wand and a rhyme that goes a little somethin like this- 'Come on, bucket, mop, broom- Flora says clean up the room!'- could keep a home looking spotless practically effortlessly! Now who wouldn't want that.

Now that we got the most unrealistic feature of my dream home clarified, lets move on to the tangible goodness of my dream brick-and-mortar haven, shall we?

Outdoor Appearance

From my Pinterest board

If I tinkered around more on my Pinterest (not that I spent an hour on it prior to writing this article or anything), I probably would have found a hundred other homes I like just as much, but this image is pretty much the gist.

First off, the color white is incredibly classy and brick is just plain sexy (especially with age)- like Gerard Butler.

The uneven pointy roof adds character and the hanging flowers in the front coupled with the light gray footpath is just money.

And lets not forget about the exposed windows everywhere with the rustic white panes... ooh insert heart-face eyes emoji HERE.

One thing I would add is a shit ton of vines... Maybe completely covering one side and then the other side vines are trickled in, but overall they really emphasize charm.

How Bout That Foyer

Also from my Pinterest board

Can you tell that I like the color white? It just bespeaks intelligence and class- what can I say.

The patterned staircase is an absolute must in my future home, though. Might be a little on the pricey side... oh hell- what am I discussing price for when this is a dream home?? Someone slap me.

The only adjustment I would make to the above image is that the staircase would have to wind. I insist on it. Gotta keep with that theme of character and charm! And a spiral staircase is the epitome of that.

Moving on to where the magic happens!

The Kitchen

My Pinterest board

My Pinterest board

Can you guess? My Pinterest board

You gotta have natural light in the kitchen! Hence all those tall, amazing, perfectly symmetric windows!

I love the look of wood so those wooden booths are a must. I also love brick on the inside just as much as I do on the outside. Brick in the kitchen is not your traditional backsplash, but that's why I like it! The only thing missing is a brick pizza oven.

They're not featured in the above images, but you can also expect to see a LOT of exposed bulbs in my kitchen and also every other room in my giant box of a house for that matter.

The kitchen is the best kept secret in any home (in my opinion) so it should go without saying that mine is definitely going to have the greatest mix of rustic+modern charm in the TLC department.

Now to where miracles happen.

The Bedroom

My Pinterest board

Now tell me that this is not HEAVEN...

Take away the christmas lights and replace them with a string of exposed bulbs...

Also remove the white board at the side so as not to feel like a dorm room...

But those towering windows and the cozy nook feels?!

My boyfriend is not the stay-in-bed-all-day-and-cuddle type... but this scene just might persuade him!

Waking up to the natural light... falling asleep as the sun fades... maybe even counting the stars- which you know I will because I forgot to mention, but this dream house is going to be high in the mountains with no neighbors anywhere in sight.

This bedroom is my dream. Hands down. Nuff said.

Now to a room in which you spend half of your life (so they say).

The Bathroom

Imagine aspects from all 3 of these encompassing a single bathroom... and then you'll have my dream bathroom.

Lanterns, plants and fairy lights naturally coexist with clawfoot tubs and toilets. There's just no question about it. Big mirrors also- can't discount those.

I wish you could find them at discounted rates, though! Geez, those suckers will cost you an arm and a leg!

I'd just like to say... that in the first bathroom image, there is a plant sitting in the tub... I would have the plant sitting outside the tub or at the most, draping off the tub. Just want to make that clear.

Moving on to the sanctuary... you guessed it...

My Office

My Pinterest board

I work from home. And as I don't find much productivity in my nook of a bed, I must go to a different nook instead...

I'm most creative and productive in a place where I feel comfortable. Right now, that is in my living room with the lights off and 10 candles I have aglow, reflecting off the giant Pinterest mirror I have slanted up against my wall.

BUT... if I had the above image anywhere in my home- this is where I would do my work.

It's chill.. inviting.. and it has plants- like come on! Who wouldn't want to waste their days away in this space??

Also, can you tell I like greenery? *Insert teeth clenching emoji here.*

Sorry, but I don't care what anyone says: Greenery belongs in the home. Or at least my home. Preferably in the bathroom. And the bedroom. Oh fine... everywhere, okay??

Last but certainly not least...

The Backyard

My Pinterest board

What I love most about this setting is it's perfect for anything!

It's ideal for a chill evening with friends or a romantic evening with a lover.

All you gotta do is set the right mood and you're golden!

Honestly, I would utilize this primarily for those romantic date nights with my guy.

Ladies, lets be real in acknowledging that when you date a guy long enough, those date night efforts deplete all too fast. It's as if they're here one minute and gone the next.

They don't want to "waste" the money; they'd rather stay inside and partake in another Monday night football marathon- I could go on and on.

Imagine having this in your back yard! He would have very few excuses left in his arsenal for a lack of date night if this was just a few steps from that overused flat screen of his.

Ordinarily, I would include a man cave because lets face it- we need our time apart. But as my boyfriend is not here to pick out his desired Pinterest board (first I'd have to show him how to navigate Pinterest) and this is, yet again, MY dream home, we are going to exclude the aforementioned albeit necessary, man cave. But just this one time.

In Conclusion

Just to recap, I'm going to provide you a very abbreviated list of everything that's been talked about. So much so that you probably didn't even have to read this article, but you did so... sorry, can't help that.

So just take this as a nice refresher!

  • Brick house (preferably white) with tall rustic windows enveloped in vines.
  • Winding patterned staircase in the foyer
  • An all glass encompassed kitchen with exposed bulbs and wooden booths
  • Bedroom in a cozy nook with super tall exposed windows and more exposed bulbs
  • bathroom with a clawfoot tub, lots of plants lanterns, fairy lights and big mirrors
  • office space that lacks a desk but has a cozy chair surrounded by candles, exposed bulbs and more plants
  • vine and plant engulfed gazebo with rod iron chairs and dinner table perfect for two with you guessed it: exposed bulbs, candles and lanterns to boot.

Oh! And we can't forget about those fairy godmothers because you know I won't be cleaning this mansion of mine. :)

Joanna Gaines- I'll be looking forward to your call.
