Just as menopause at a very young age causes many problems, menopause at a young age i.e. under the age of 40 also causes many physical problems in women.

Menopause, the cessation of menstruation, is something that happens over time. Menstruation is a normal thing for women. It is not a disease or defect. But depending on the age at which this menopause occurs, what kind of symptoms it causes in the body, what are the implications and effects of those symptoms, and how it affects our daily life, we can feel its severity.

What is early menopause?

Menopause is when a woman stops menstruating for 12 consecutive months without any external or medical reasons. Menopause usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 in women. But it is called 'Early Menopause' when menstrual bleeding stops before the age of 40 instead of stopping within a certain age. Doctors mention various reasons for this. Obstetrician Tilakam spoke to us about this.

Who suffers from menopause at this young age?

A woman has about 4 lakh follicles at birth. It comes out with every menstruation. Finally it will be around 300 to 400 numbers. But if the number of these follicles is low at birth, they will experience menopause at a young age. People born with a chromosomal defect may be more prone to these types of teenage menstrual problems.

People who are undergoing treatment for many cancers such as stomach cancer, ovarian cancer, and those who have undergone hysterectomy due to various medical reasons face the problem of menopause at this young age. Menstruation at a young age is called 'premature ovarian failure'.

It also occurs through inheritance. It also has a 90 percent chance of being hereditary.

Another important thing to note is that some people experience menopausal symptoms without ovulation. It is called primary amenorrhea. People suffering from this type of condition should consult a doctor at an early age. Nothing can be done about it after age. They can be given treatments such as hormonal therapy when they are younger.

Estrogen gland is essential for bone growth and strength. So when this estrogen declines (premature menopause) they develop bone-weakening diseases such as osteopenia or osteoporosis. If this is detected and the symptoms are at an early stage, iron, calcium and vitamin D3 tablets can be given.

What are the symptoms and effects?

Common symptoms of menopause include hot flushes (sudden feeling of heat in the face, neck, chest areas), genital dryness, insomnia, darkening of the skin, headaches, sudden changes in mood, excessive hair loss. Patients are treated according to their respective symptoms.

How to detect menopause?

Irregular menstruation occurs during menopause. Sometimes menstruating twice in one month. Such symptoms should be attended to immediately. Go to the doctors and correct the heavy bleeding immediately. Because excessive bleeding can cause problems such as anemia and heart disease. In necessary situations, hormone levels will be tested and treatment will be given accordingly.

How many days does irregular menstruation last?

Symptoms such as irregular menstrual bleeding during menopause can last from six months to a year.

For some people this menopause is normal. Despite the difficulties, it is bearable. But some people have to consult a doctor.

How to prepare the body for menopause?

In general, protein-rich foods, such as legumes, can be taken more. It is high in estrogen. High protein foods like kidney beans, egg whites can be taken. Adequate water intake and exercise can moderate the effects of menopause. Pre-menopause symptoms can be easily countered with a nutritious diet.

Different stages of menopause?

Menopause has three phases namely premenopause, menopause and postmenopause. That is pre-menopause, menopause and post-menopause. Pre-menopause, menopause and post-menopause have some of the same symptoms. Postmenopause is the stage after a year of no menstruation. Symptoms usually vary from person to person at this stage.

The UN reports that the number of women in this postmenopausal stage is increasing internationally. In 2021, 26 percent of the world's population will be women over the age of 50. According to the UN, this was 22 percent 10 years ago.
