Chaulmoogra oil is a yellowish-brown liquid extracted from the seed of the tree Chaulmoogra oleifera, which grows in Laos and Cambodia. The substance is also known as "Beeswax oil," though that name has also been given to other plant oils such as linseed oil. It's often applied over the skin for pain relief and skin healing as well as in conditioners for hair. When used topically, it's been found to reduce swelling and discomfort associated with acne and psoriasis, among other medical conditions. When used orally, it might have some anti-inflammatory benefits or be effective at alleviating nausea (though those findings are less certain). In the 19th century, it was used in the treatment of leprosy. Today it's used to treat psoriasis and vitiligo. However, it doesn't work for all conditions, nor is it always safe to use. It can also have healing effects when applied externally as well as when taken orally. The use of chaulmoogra oil is very effective for skin care and other purposes.

What Does Chaulmoogra Oil Contain?

Organic Chaulmoogra Oil contains a fatty acid called oleic acid, which comprises more than half of what's in the oil. Oleic acid is a major ingredient in olive oil and is widely considered to have health benefits on its own. But it's also mixed with other oils, including palm oil, palm kernel oil, almond oil, and rice bran oil. As these oils make up a huge part of the chaulmoogra oil, they make up the bulk of its benefits beyond treating psoriasis and psoriasis-like conditions. Chaulmoogra oil is safe for external use, including for skin care and hair care — though it's typically used in relatively small amounts. Its potential good effects are too great to risk using large amounts on the skin or ingesting large amounts orally any more than necessary.

How Should One Use Chaulmoogra Oil?

  • Step 1: Wash your hands thoroughly
  • Step 2: Open the jar and take out a small portion of Chaulmoogra oil and mix with a carrier oil of your choice
  • Step 3: Apply it to the affected area.
  • Step 4: Allow it to remain for fifteen minutes before you wipe or wash it off.

The mode of application is quite simple and safe. Do not ingest Chaulmoogra oil orally because it can lead to serious complications like diarrhoea, vomiting, and dizziness among other effects.

Benefits of Using Chaulmoogra Oil:

  • It helps in the removal of dead skin cells and unclogs the pores to promote a great deal of clear skin. It’s easy to apply and not costly.
  • It can also reduce blood pressure by taking away bad cholesterol (LDL) from your body.
  • It’s also good for stomach upsets like gas, constipation, and indigestion. You can also make use of it in case you suddenly feel queasy.
  • Another benefit is that it eases pain in case you suffer from wounds or bruises.
  • In addition, this herbal oil can treat a variety of infections like asthma, bronchitis, and dental cavity.
  • To make your skin brighter and smoother, you can use it on your face.
  • You can also use it to treat sunburns.
  • There are various ways in which you can apply chaulmoogra oil externally. EO (Extracorporeal photopheresis) is a therapeutic modality used to treat psoriasis that involves removing blood from the patient, then exposing it to ultraviolet light for re-circulation through an intravenous line into the bloodstream before returning it to the body as normal.
  • The use of chaulmoogra oil is done in aromatherapy to help with symptoms related to the respiratory tract, such as asthma.
