The Keto Diet is a subject near to my heart. It's a subject surrounded by much controversy. The Keto Diet, for all intents and purposes, is a cult.

There are two sides. Some love it, and some hate it. I haven't to this point seen a middle ground.

Personally, I'm on the side of those who love it. I'll explain why exactly. Throughout my life I have been surrounded by those with obesity issues, heart problems, and folks that can't even move around like those who don't struggle with obesity. For right now though, I'll focus on myself, and my parents. I haven't ever struggled with obesity. My problem has been being skinny fat. Rail thin as far as muscular development, but a pudge in my midsection. I was a baseball player in college and I can remember vividly taking batting practice after our scheduled practice, and the seniors with whom I was taking practice with were literally making fun of me for barely getting the ball out of the infield. I remember one teammate said "homie, have you ever thought about hitting the gym and eating some food for God's sake?". From then on my goal was to get bigger. I started eating everything I could get my hands on and was killing myself in the gym.

The issue came in where my fat gains far superseded my muscular gains. When I got married in 2018 I was heavier than I've ever been and legitimately fat. Let's move to my parents. In my entire 30 years of living on this planet, I've never seen either of my parents below what would be classified as obese. And for a time, they were both morbidly obese.

The tipping point came when all 3 of us decided to make a change and try out the Keto Diet. Within 6 months I had lost 25lbs and for the first time in my life I could see my abs! My parents...oh man. They both lost over 50lbs each and were in the best shape I'd ever seen them in.

Now, the Keto Diet isn't magic (although it feels like it). However, it has been scientifically proven to promote weight loss and a host of other benefits.

What worked for me was a specific meal plan that took the guess work out of my life. My life is complicated and busy just like yours is. So if you want to use the same meal plan that I did (and still do), I'll link it at the end of this post.

I don't want to get too long in this post, so I'll list a few bullet points below:

1. Weight Loss: A ketogenic diet has been shown to promote weight loss by reducing body fat through the restriction of carbohydrates and increase of healthy fats.

2. Improved Insulin Sensitivity: A ketogenic diet has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, which may help to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

3. Increased Energy: By relying on fat as a primary source of energy, individuals following a ketogenic diet often report increased energy levels and reduced fatigue.

4. Better Brain Function: The ketogenic diet has been linked to improved brain function, including increased concentration, focus, and memory.

5. Improved Cholesterol Levels: A ketogenic diet has been shown to improve cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.

6. Reduced Inflammation: By reducing carbohydrate intake, the ketogenic diet can help to reduce inflammation in the body, which may help to reduce the risk of certain diseases and conditions.

7. Epilepsy Treatment: The ketogenic diet has been used as a treatment for epilepsy for over 90 years, and has been shown to be effective in reducing seizures in children and adults.
