Breathe in the fresh air and get ready to pick a new paint color for the wall - spring is here!

As we embrace the season of growth and renewal, it’s time to welcome the evolving variety of interior design trends in store for spring 2020.

Keeping up with the latest interior design styles and predicting upcoming trends is a natural process for anyone seeking to impress home guests to their home and show their taste for innovation. And while this information may be difficult to get a hold of without paying for a pricey home magazine, lucky for us, another leader in the industry found some results of their own.

Thanks to this furniture company, we have real insights into the interior design styles that will be trending for spring based on the results of their nationwide survey. The furniture retailer surveyed Americans across all 50 states to determine details like the design eras most likely to make a comeback, the top colors for spring, the top trends for the season, and what styles people are ready to see make their way out.

Upon asking respondents what design eras they would like to see make a comeback, about 1 in 5 respondents voted for the bright colors and retro aesthetic of the 1970s. Falling close behind, the second era that generated the most votes was those for the all whites and neutral colors of the 2000s (20%). Ironically, these two design eras are complete opposites of each other, but we can rest assured that whether we pick a bold blue or creamy white, we’ll still be keeping up with this season’s trends. Among other design eras respondents would like to see make a comeback are the 1960s, 2010s, and the 1980s.

Moving onto the top colors for spring, various shades of blue and green appear to be the most popular for spring. The highest percentage of respondents are most excited to incorporate cobalt blue into their homes, followed by another popular shade of blue - navy blue. In the third most popular spot is emerald green. Based on these results, get ready to see some bold colors in homes over the coming months - in fact, 1 in 5 respondents are ready to make a statement by painting their kitchen cabinets one of these bold colors.

The survey also asked respondents which design styles they anticipated would be the most popular in spring 2020. Taking first place, the modern style had the highest anticipation of being the biggest style of the season, with about 1 in 4 of respondents’ votes. Modern style manages to deliver a powerful statement to viewers with their properties of white colored walls and geometric furniture shapes. Minimalist was the second most highly anticipated style, gathering 20% of votes from participants. Minimalism has been a common theme in recent interior design, as more homeowners desire a fusion of their personal values and their eye for design. With this change, minimalism becomes a popular interior design style that emphasizes simple colors, functional furniture, and monochromatic colors.

Lastly, the survey asked Americans which trends they are ready to see to make their way out of style this spring. A variety of home accents, colors, and fabrics made the list of what not to do in your next renovation, but topping the list was sliding barn doors. Could this be a sign that the days of modern farmhouse inspired homes are coming to an end? Other trends falling out of favor this spring are the color burnt orange, velvet fabric, and granite countertops.

There you have it, here’s what interior design trends you can expect to see this spring. What trends are you most excited to try out? And which trends are you planning to skip?
