My 60-Minute Promise

Choosing myself in the middle of coffee, chaos and motherhood.

How coffee, movement and courage helped me breathe again

My Morning

Today, in the morning, after my husband left for office, I stood in my very quiets kitchen. As a routine habit, I scanned the mess that was supposed to be cleared up last night. This mess gave me depression. I just stood there, unable to decide whether to start cleaning the mess or give time to myself first. Seriously I was stuck between two options.

Then I realised that if I started cleaning the mess, I would get tired, the work wouldn't finish, and my own things would be delayed again. So I simply ignored the mess and decided to have a cup of coffee instead. I chose to make a small cup of coffee. While making it, I couldn't control my habit and started cleaning the mess from the countertop too.

Even with coffee in hand, I couldn't resist cleaning the countertop-- a small act of discipline that begins my day

Choosing Myself First

I told myself that as we age, we need to focus more on ourselves, our health, and exercise. So I made a cup of black coffee and added a few drops of MCT oil. This drink is very good before 30mins of workout. You burn more fats and you get more strength.

I follow only two different exercised on You Tube: Imi's Yoga and Tai Chi. After the 30mins, I chose the Tai Chi exercise. My body and mind felt so relaxed in words, I can't explain.

From today, I promised myself to give at least 60 mins to myself. No matter what the schedule is, you must give time to yourself. And these minutes will change my life again.

Why I Took a Break From Writing

For the last few months, every day I held a pen in my hand to write my feelings and turn my day into a story----- a story that could help other mums. But sadly for the last few months, I was unable to put words in Black and White. I realised that some thing was wrong, but unfortunately I couldn't figure it out.

Seriously, I decided to take a break. I just didn't want to hold a pen and start writing a story which had no meaning. I want my readers to enjoy my stories and benefits from them. Seriously, the last few months were really very hard. I was unable to concentrate.

A big part of that struggle came from the constant stress I was carrying inside

The Stress of Waiting

When you wait for the exam results of your son, who will be going to the university soon, every single day feels like your oxygen level is slowly going down. When I received an email from school about the result date, believe me countdown started from there. I was counting days. Some times I woke up late at night and started walking. I don't want to hide it..... I was scared. It's not that my son didn't perform well. He is a brilliant boy, but I think being scared s also a good sign. My thinking is that you should be always ready for the worst.

Finally, the day arrived. My son's result was out. What I noticed was that he didn't reach for his result first..... instead he searched for the university acceptance email. And it was a really big relief that the university he applied to had accepted him.

Mums Duties Never End

As parents, relief is never fully complete. These days I am teaching him a few easy and healthy dishes that he can cook in the instant pot. Baba and son went shopping to the IKEA. My son told me that they give discount to university students. About that ,I had no idea.

Mum duties never stop, even if she is full time mum, working from home or going to the office. In the last few months, I was really getting tired as I wasn't feeling good. The reason was simple: not taking care of myself. I realised that if you get ill, you get the pain, you suffer. Your family can help you with different chores, but they can't take your pain. They take care of you, but they cannot carry what your body carries. So it is really vital to take care of yourself.

My Promise to Myself

As we age, we must take care of ourselves. No matter what happens, I decided to give 60 mins each days to myself. If it's not easy each day, then at least three days are for myself.

What are your routines? Do let me know. I love to hear your routines about how you are taking care of yourself, especially during busy days. What are your favourite exercises, and how do you feel after doing them?.
