Mopping Didn’t Help? Now What?

How to get those extra tough stains & spills off your floor

I’ve got the solution to your problem. If you’ll remember what you’re told today, you can keep your floor clean and shiny. You must do daily maintenance, and then a deeper maintenance periodically.

Regular Cleaning

For regular cleaning of a concrete floor, mix 1/2 cup baking soda to a gallon of warm water. Mop the floor. Rinse. This will loosen any grease or dirt on the floor and keep it clean.

Remove Light Stains

Mix 1/3 cup powdered laundry detergent to a gallon of water. Apply to a light stain. Let sit about 10 minutes, and scrub with a nylon bristle brush. Rinse and repeat if the stain didn’t come up. After the stain is removed, clean the spot regularly.

Remove Paint Stains

Use a putty knife to loosen the paint. Sweep up the paint that came up.

Mix Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) and water according to the label. Wear gloves. Apply it to the stain and scrub it. Rinse with water. Remove any paint that came up and rinse again.

If the stain wasn’t removed, make sure the area is insulated well and get a paint stripper. Wear gloves. Place the paint stripper on the stain for a few hours and then scrub or scrape the floor.

Remove Rust Stains

Nails, buckets or tools of any sort, especially if they got wet, will leave rust stains.

Thankfully, this type of stain doesn’t require a major cleaner. Pour some vinegar on it or squeeze a lemon onto the stain. Let that sit on the stain for at least 10 minutes, then scrub the area. If the stain doesn't come up, repeat.

You can also get a detergent with baking soda in it and make a paste with water. Leave that on the stain for about an hour. Be sure not to let the paste dry, as it will harden and won’t work. Take the brush and scrub it. Rinse with water.

Remove Grease and Oil

Fresh

Get sawdust or cat litter and sprinkle onto the spill. Let sit it for about a day, sweep it up. Apply dry dish or laundry detergent to the spot, let sit for about 45 minutes. Add water, take a brush and scrub. Rinse. Apply detergent again, let sit for 15 minutes, add water and scrub again. Rinse.

Stains

Try the same process as with a fresh spill except for the cat litter.

If no luck, get a degreaser. Let the degreaser sit on the stain for about 30 minutes, scrub with a brush, rinse. It might take several tries to get it up.

Clean and Bring Back Shine

To clean the floor and bring back the shine, use Pentra-Clean (CR) with an auto scrubber. This product is perfect for retail, commercial, institutional or industrial floors.

Uses

Use Pentra-Clean CR Cleaner to:

  • Easily remove dirt and grime
  • Help resist scratches, water spots and scuffs
  • Reduce the need for buffing
  • Leave no residue
  • Use Nano-Lithium Technology
  • Hardens, protects and restores gloss and durability
  • Increase the floors longevity
  • Reduce maintenance
  • Enhance and restore dulled floors
  • Reduce costly repairs

Application

Sweep the floor before using auto scrubber.

Add four ounces of cleaner to 15 gallons of water in the auto scrubber water tank.

For routine cleaning: scrub the floor with squeegee down and vacuum/squeegee engaged.

For deep cleaning: add cleaner and scrub floor with brushes engaged, but squeegee up. Allow product to sit on the floor without drying for 20 minutes, scrub again with brushes on and squeegee engaged. Add more cleaner as needed.

To increase shine: buff with tan or white burnishing pads.

Conclusion

Concrete floors must have regular cleaning and maintenance. Without it, clutter and grime can leave the floors in poor condition. You need to keep the floors safe for everyone, so chemicals, dirt, and stains must be removed.
