Today’s buyers are looking for practical spaces to make living easy while homeowners want to save on the costs of maintenance while maximizing resale value. The good news is there are ways you can update your property and get top dollar for it without having to fork out thousands on renovations and fixtures. Whether you are struggling to sell your home or you are thinking of placing it on the market, let’s look at the ways you can appeal to buyers and get the price you’re asking for.

Interior Decorating without Permanent Fixtures

I came across this article “Personalize Your Home Damage Free” while looking for ways to make my home look attractive but on a fairly tight budget. It offers great tips for renters of apartments and homeowners who want to update their interiors but can’t use permanent fixtures to get the look they want. Here you’ll find everything from removable wallpaper to replacing old kitchen cabinet knobs. It’s creative, fun, and you can do most of these upgrades without spending too much money.

Improve Storage

One of the biggest features that families are looking for when buying or renting a home is storage. When they view a house, they may open the cabinets or the closet doors to check out how much space is available. What you can do is clear the cupboards from your bedroom to your kitchen. Toss what you don’t need and pack in boxes what you won’t be using. To make the inside of dated cupboards or cabinets look more spacious, you can use vinyl paper to line the shelves, or you can paint the interior. If it stained, charcoal acrylic paint in a matte finish is best. To make the inside of a cabinet look larger, lighter grays, creams, and white are recommended.

Clean the Yard

Whether you have a small front yard or a large garden, keep it neat and trim. Buyers want to look at a property and not be overwhelmed by maintenance before they’ve even considered buying the place! Bushes should be trimmed, lawns mowed, and garden borders defined. Remove overgrown limbs from trees and haul the bits of garden debris and refuse to the local junkyard or dump grounds. It won’t cost much but a bit of time and elbow grease.

Make the Outdoors More Attractive

Along with cleaning the yard, you can also incorporate a few DIY projects to make the space look more inviting. If you have a deck or patio area, clean some chairs, give it a repaint if you must, and create a seating area.

You can also use old tires or pallet boxes to make planter boxes. A pallet can also be secured to a wall and brackets added to the pallet itself o you can hang ornaments or garden tools. Show buyers what they can do with the space without spending those extra bucks!

Lighten and Brighten the Interior

Houses that don’t get too much natural light may be off-putting for new buyers. People want an airy home that is both private and naturally bright inside. If your walls are dark, choose a feature wall to paint in a lighter complementary color. You can also swop out those old and heavy drapes for modern blinds or shutters that you can buy online or at your local Home Depot.

Make Your Home Smell Inviting

By Sharon McCutcheon on Unsplash

This may sound a little strange but research in the property market shows that interiors with 'welcoming' or enjoyable fragrances are more likely to sell than those that are a little musty or stuffy! Prior to having people come over to view the house, you could bake biscuits, cupcakes or warm bread. You could even place these on display in your kitchen. You could also place a bouquet of flowers containing jasmine or lilies in the main living room for a sweet and pleasant fragrance. Be sure to keep pets out and think of giving an old sofa or rugs a deep foam clean to remove any odd odors.

With a few creative changes and your time (get the family onboard), you can make your home look and feel modern and bright and get that top dollar list price you're looking for.
