Are you leaving the Utah area for an extended period without the majority of your things, but have plans of returning? Are you moving out of Layton last-minute and don't have the space to take all of your valuables with you? Maybe you even frequently travel for work and are gone more often than not. Whatever the situation may be, you likely have one priority: figuring out what to do with the stuff you're leaving behind. Just like with any other move or long-term trip, you have a never-ending checklist of tasks to complete. Save yourself the worry, and consider taking the following tips to keep the things you wish to hang on to, but can't take with you, safe and sound.

1. Storage

One of the best ways to ensure the safe-keeping of your belongings is to look into storage units in Layton. This way, you know there will be someone checking in on your things and have a renter guarantee. There are options not only to store household items but available space for RVs or farm equipment. Plenty of people have odd objects that are not easily storable but have plenty of good reasons for keeping them.

2. Ask a Friend

If you are keeping a property in the area and have a few trusted friends nearby, you could ask them to keep an eye on your valuables now and again. They could make sure everything looks like it is in the right place, and give you a call if they saw anything suspicious. Offering gas money or a small monthly stipend would make it more of a side hustle than a favor if you prefer it that way.

3. Rent Out Your Place

It could be a good idea to offer a less expensive place to stay in exchange for someone looking after your personal effects and doing some upkeep around the house. If you have some time before you leave, then you could try to find someone looking for something a little bit different than the typical rental situation. It certainly sounds like a pretty easy gig and could be a mutually beneficial relationship. Based on what you are leaving and what kind of responsibilities this person would have, you can negotiate an appropriate rental amount each month. This plan would work best with someone you know personally or with a person that can provide an excellent rental history with references and can pass a background check. You want to be sure you find someone who is dependable and will respect your belongings.

4. Get Some Security Equipment

There is also the option to invest in a home security system that can watch over everything for you while you are gone. This way, you can see what is happening at all times and have video evidence if something were to go south. A lot of these options can be monitored and controlled from anywhere with a smartphone or tablet and are super user-friendly. Not to mention, some companies specialize in home security if that would make you feel more comfortable.

Depending on your situation, you can find some peace of mind in knowing there are options to take care of your things while you're away. Leaving a city behind is hard enough if you don't have a house or items still there, so take your time in devising a plan that eases your stress the most. The good news is, nothing has to be set in stone. If you get where you are going and feel uneasy about your fix, you can always come up with a different solution. Saying good-bye to a place you call home is difficult, but there are still plenty of memories to be made elsewhere.
