Losing Your Hair Means Losing Your Identity

For the majority of her life, Lisa had a large head of silky hair.

Until she started noticing there was more hair in her brushes than usual in her early 40s.

It was the start of a humiliating hair loss episode that lasted for over seven years.

As a marketing director, I had a stressful job, Lisa remarked.

I was also taking care of my ill mother at the same time.

And my hormones were all out of control.

My hair started to come out to the point where I could see my scalp in sections due to the ideal storm.

Lisa visits a licensed aesthetician every six weeks to have her hair colored, but the stress and hormone imbalance destroyed her hair.

She quickly shortened her attractive haircut, which had previously been in a thick ponytail or French braid, until there was little more to be chopped.

She noticed more of it in the drain every morning.

Lisa also lost most of her confidence, along with her hair.

When people peered at her scalp and quickly turned their heads away, she grew more and more upset and uncomfortable.

Losing Your Hair Means Losing Your Identity

Hair loss is never desirable.

Due to heredity, we usually see it in men.

Before giving up and shaving it all off, like Bruce Willis, they go to great efforts to cover it with comb-overs, "do-rags," and berets.

Because it is a characteristic of men, most people don't think twice about it.

It's tragic when a woman's hair starts to fall out.

A lady is defined by her hair's shape, color, length, style, and fullness.

A woman's crowning beauty is her luxurious, flowing hair.

Hair thinning occurs gradually. You could initially notice a few more hairs in your brush or comb.

You start fussing over your scalp in the mirror when you start noticing hair in the drain on a daily basis.

Soon, your scalp glows through the minimal hair, revealing the thinning from a distance.

Your physical and emotional health may suffer if your hair is thinning.

You start obsessing over new hats, scarves, and wigs to wear under what's left of your hair.

Hair Loss Affects You Emotionally

Lisa disconnected from her hectic social life when she saw her hair was thinning significantly.

She began to decline personal invites and attended fewer social gatherings.

At work, Lisa avoided eye contact because she sensed her self-assurance ebbing.

That is inappropriate for a woman in any career or high-level position.

I attempted to bury my head under scarves and hats, Lisa said to us.

I couldn't always conceal and I had to talk to people, but I tried to stay away from pictures and videos.

What could I do when they caught a peek at my scalp, which I detested?

Chemotherapy or using medications may cause this.

The word Anagen effluvium is used in medicine. In essence, the medications poison the hair follicle.

Certain nutrients are necessary for the proper growth of your hair.

The hair may begin to shed if these nutrients are lacking.

How Bad Is Your Hair Loss

Doctors use the Ludwig Scale to determine the severity of female pattern hair loss.

Type 1 is the mildest stage where a new style can cover the thinning areas of the scalp.

Type 2 is moderate. Women notice thinning hair and widening where they part their hair.

Type 3 is severe, and the scalp is readily visible where the hair is sparse.
