Is there a way to get a refund on an economy ticket?

Are there any refund policies if I change my mind and decide not to travel?

There are a few airlines that offer a refund option for certain economy tickets. The best way to see if an airline offers a refund on an economy ticket is by checking the airline's website. It also helps if you check the terms and agreements of your specific airline.

You can get a refund or exchange an economy ticket within 24 hours of your purchase.

If you're planning to go on a trip, the first thing to do is find the best flight deal. However, it's not always possible for your travel plans to match up with the exact dates of your flight. For example, if you find that you need to change your departure date or return flight by a few days, it could mean paying extra money.

Fortunately, there are ways to get around this issue and get an economy ticket refunded or exchanged as long as you act before the deadline. Here's how it works: How long do you have? You can get an economy ticket refunded within 24 hours of purchasing it or exchanging it for a different date.

This means that if you buy an economy ticket at lunchtime and want to change your flight date by two days later in the day, then it should be no problem getting this done before midnight that night (assuming that you don't go over 24 hours).

You can only get a refund if you have a basic economy ticket.

In general, no, you can't get a refund on an economy class ticket. But there are some exceptions. Basic economy tickets are refundable only if you cancel your trip before the departure date or if the flight is canceled. If you're flying in first or business class, it's a different story — those tickets are fully refundable up until 24 hours before departure.

Here's what happens if you have a basic economy ticket: If you want to cancel your trip and get a refund, you'll need to do so within 24 hours of booking your flight (or before you pay for it). Once that 24-hour period ends, all bets are off. If your flight is canceled, you can request a full refund right away (if it was booked with an airline credit card).

But if it was booked with cash or points, then it depends on where and when that flight was purchased. If it was purchased directly from American Airlines, then they'll give you back whatever amount of money they received from selling the ticket (minus any fees).

You can't change or cancel basic economy tickets without paying a fee.

The answer is yes. But, it's not as simple as you might think. And, it depends on the airline and the ticket. Basic economy tickets (also known as cheap tickets) are refundable only if they're cancelled ahead of time. If you don't cancel your ticket in time, there's a fee.

If you booked a basic economy ticket with American Airlines or Delta Air Lines, cancellations are limited to 24 hours before departure. After that, you'll have to pay $200 per person for a refund on an economy ticket through either airline.

If you need to change your ticket you will have to pay fees to do so.

If you need to change your flight, you will have to pay fees. If you booked an economy ticket and want to change it to a business class ticket, the airlines will offer you a refund for the difference in price. If you want to cancel your flight altogether and get a refund, there are a few things that might happen: You can get a full refund if you cancel before 30 days till departure or within 24 hours after booking your flight.

This is true whether it's an international or domestic flight. You can also get a partial refund if you cancel within 30 days but more than 7 days before departure. If your departure time has passed, then you can only get a partial refund of what you paid for the ticket.

This usually depends on how much notice was given by the airline before canceling the flight. If they give more than 30 minutes' notice, then they'll only give back 50% of what was paid for the ticket. If no notice was given at all or if less than 30 minutes' notice was given, then 100% of what was paid will be returned to you in cash or by credit card.

All in All...

There are a couple of ways to get a refund on your economy ticket, but it all depends on when you purchased the ticket. If you bought an economy ticket and under 21 days until departure, then the only way to get a refund is by cancelling the reservation or transferring it to someone else.

That said, if you have made advance seat assignments and pay for checked baggage, there are no refunds once tickets have been issued.
