"In general, we want to think about our diet and some of the things we may not be getting enough of. For example, vitamin D is particularly important in Canada because we have those colder weather and it is a little more difficult to get outside and get it from natural sunlight."

Vitamin B pills, which may be obtained naturally in fresh leafy vegetables and colorful fruits, are also recommended by Druteika.

"Depending on where we live, we may not be able to obtain vegetables and fruits in their most fresh state, or we may have busy schedules that prevent us from preparing them as often as we would like. "Vitamin D and vitamin B are two of the most frequent vitamins that people seek for or require supplementation for," Druteika explained.

According to Health Canada, fortified foods are the most common sources of vitamin D. Cow's milk and margarine must be supplemented with vitamin D in Canada, but fatty fish and egg yolks are the only natural sources of vitamin D in the food supply.

"Remember, we want to try our best to have those relaxation techniques and that wind down [time] before bed so that we can ease into it." "The B vitamin can help with that as well," Druteika added.

Along with relaxation, it's important to remember to keep your body hydrated. Druteika recommends drinking enough of water to ensure that vitamins and supplements are effectively absorbed into the body and flushed out when necessary.
