Are you one of the victims of HP printer saying HP printer shows paper error but while checking you have enough paper? Then this article is for you.

There is literally paper inside the printer, but you are warned about the fake warning message that there is not enough paper in the printer. This false error with HP printer can be due to many reasons such as printer hardware issues, incorrect/outdated printer software, paper tray malfunction, and irrelevant printer settings for your HP printer.

Whatever the problem, here in this article we have provided you enough troubleshooting instructions along with the reasons to prevent the same from happening again in the future.

Possible reason why your HP printer is experiencing a false out of paper error:

  • You may not have installed your printer driver correctly.
  • Or you installed an outdated HP printer driver or firmware
  • The print queue may be the source of such a fuss.
  • There may be a compatibility issue with your printer.
  • Your print job may be stuck in the path
  • The paper you loaded may not be related to the printer settings
  • Or you may have loaded used and folded paper
  • Sometimes poor quality paper can also cause these types of problems.
  • Paper rolls with a buildup of rubbing residue can also be the cause.
  • Network connection problem between your printer and computer

Fix HP printer out of paper issue:

Step 1: Initially reset your HP printer

  • Unplug your printer’s power cord while it’s still turned on
  • Also, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet
  • Then please wait 15-20 seconds
  • After that, reconnect the power cord to the printer as well as the computer
  • Now turn on your printer
  • Try printing your document
  • If the problem persists, continue to the next solution

Step 2: Then clean the paper rollers

As the dirty paper selector and roller can also cause this problem, clean them

  • Turn off your printer first
  • Then remove any paper stacked in the paper tray
  • Now open the cartridge access door and locate the paper roll
  • It may be black or gray depending on your printer model
  • Use a soft, lint-free cotton cloth dampened with distilled water to clean the roller
  • Once cleaned, wait for the roller to dry
  • Then close the printer access door and turn on the printer
  • Wait for the printer to start up and remain idle
  • Then you can send your print job for printing
  • If the problem persists, continue to the next solution

Always printing a self-test report can help you understand the status of the printer. During cleaning, pay special attention to the paper roll, if it is damaged, try to replace it with a new one. Prefer original part of HP printers to be safe from such attacks.

Step 3: Next, check the paper before loading it into the printer

  • Keep in mind that you have to stack the paper in your printer
  • Always use the paper guide to load your paper
  • Stack fresh, clean and tidy paper
  • Make sure the corners are not curled and the papers are dirty
  • Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface and spread them out before loading them
  • Then gently push the paper inside the printer until it clicks into place
  • Also never mix up the brand of paper when loading
  • Use one paper type at a time do not mix paper types

Step 4: Now make sure to set the correct print settings

  • Navigate to the document causing the problem
  • Then click on the file and choose Print
  • In the next print pop-up screen, choose the name of your printer
  • Then tap on the Properties option
  • In the next Properties screen, select the Paper/Quality tab
  • Go to the media option and select the paper type that matches your print job
  • Then choose the Advanced tab and click on the Paper/Output drop-down list
  • From the following drop-down list, select the paper size that matches your settings
  • Click OK
  • Just follow the instructions and give access or accept the settings in the following screens
  • Now try again to print the document you intend to print before
  • If it prints without problems, the problem is solved

If the document does not print, try another solution or give your printer a service to identify what is hiding under your printer. If the document prints in clear, you can be sure the problem is with the paper.

Step 5: Try printing a self-test report

  • From your printer, print the self-test report
  • If it prints without a problem, try sending the print job from your computer to the printer.
  • If it prints, the problem is solved
  • If the self-test report does not print as expected, you need to check your printer hardware and paper problem.
  • If the self-test report prints but the print job does not start, you need to check the printer driver and print settings.

Step 6: Advice on giving the product for a service

After performing all the mentioned steps, if you are still having problems with printing, it is best to consider a comprehensive printing service. If you are within the warranty period, you can claim this for the repair and replacement process.
