If you are planning to handle tiling the floor on your own, it would be advisable to start with baby steps. Granted that it’s your home and you would go the extra mile to ensure that you get it perfect. Which is all the more reason that you should check out the rest of the post as it should provide you with tips, essential pointers that you need to know to get the perfect finish. Or you can always approach a professional tiler and get him to finish the bathroom, just as you wanted it. Here’re the tips,

  • Get the layout: When it comes to tiling in Auckland, the first thing that you need to do is to get the layout of the small bathroom. Try to maximize the layout, so that you can use a maximum number of whole tiles for the bathroom. This should help to reduce the number of uneven tiles, broken tiles, and instead, the finish should just be perfect. Remember to start from the center of the room; make sure that you plan and strategize accordingly. But most important of all, make sure you purchase the required tiles, and other relevant materials as required, to finish the job.
  • Adjust the sink, toilet, and other essentials: As you move ahead with tiling , you need to remember that the room you are planning to test out your burgeoning skills is the bathroom. And that after the job is complete, the room would be at least ½ inch higher, if not more due to the fresh tiles. You need to ensure that your sink, tub, toilets are all adjusted before you start laying out the new tiles. And start from the center of the room and go ahead with a dry run, just to check out the finish.
  • The center tile: Of all the tiles, the most important one happens to be the center tile. Now, affix the center tile using the recommended adhesive or even a thin mortar. Just use a thin mortar and it should work just as well. Make sure that the center tile is fixed properly and that the mortar is set; now check it out. And if it is good, then you can go ahead with the remaining tiles in the room, and keep in mind that you are an amateur attempting to do a DIY job of tiling your bathroom so start with small, baby steps.
  • Go with straight lines: When installing the remaining tiles, use the center tile as the main reference point and install the remaining ones in straight lines. This should help make the job easier and enable you to finish it fast. And if the mortar or the adhesive oozes up between the tiles, as you install it - that means you are using too much of it, so cut back on it. And if some of the tiles are jagged, or not even enough, then you can go ahead and cut it, so that it lines up with the rest perfectly.
  • Allow it to sit overnight: Do allow for one complete day, for the mortar or the adhesive used to set. This should provide your tiles enough time to stick to the floor in even lines, and just the way you had wanted it. And as you allow time for the tiles to set, make sure that neither you nor any of your family members use that particular bathroom. And after 24 hrs have passed, the tiles should have been set and you should be able to use the room.

That’s it, this is how you go about tiling a room to perfection.
