How to Build a Morning Routine That Sets You Up for Success

How you start your day can significantly affect your productivity, mental state, and overall success. Thus, a great morning routine gets you rolling, minimizes stress and sets a positive tone for the day. Whether you’re someone who rises early or a bed-dodger, creating a schedule that suits your needs may be the key. Here’s how to create a morning routine that prepares you for success.

The Importance of a Morning Routine

Before we get into the details, we need to know why is a morning routine important. Who were going to leave in great careers, be it CEOs, CEO, athletes or maybe those who are just flying high, they all have one thing in common and that is their morning habits and how they start their mornings. Your morning routine makes sure you have a semblance of control, a tinge of purpose before the day gobbles you up. It’s your period to concentrate on self-care, goal-setting and mental clarity.

With a strong base by morning, you are better prepared to reach for the challenges you face and act out of considered decision making during the hours ahead.”

Streamline Your Morning Routine Peak Performance

When it comes to developing good habits, consistency is crucial. Getting up at the same time each day also helps set your internal clock, giving you better sleep and better energy. Pick a time to wake up that gives you enough sleep (optimally 7-9 hours) and that gives you enough time for your morning items.

If waking up early is not you, you can do it gradually; rise up 10 -15 minutes early each day. Eventually this will help you form the habit without overexertion.

Hydrate Upon Waking

During sleep, your body becomes dehydrated. The water after 8 hours of sleep helps to rehydrate your system and this helps to reduce flu or if you are a daily worker, it helps to boost disk metabolism just before you start working. For an extra health boost, you can squeeze in some lemon for a blast of vitamin C.

Move Your Body

Adding a little bit of movement into your morning routine is a great way to help boost your mood and energy and focus. You don’t need to spend an hour in the gym — even 10 to 15 minutes of stretching, yoga or a brisk walk can help a lot.

Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, sometimes called “happy hormones,” that help put a positive spin on your day. It also fights morning grogginess, so you feel alert enough to handle your to-dos.

Take Time to Practice Mindfulness or Meditation

A calm morning leads to a productive day. You can also spend 5-10 minutes on mindfulness or meditation which can help you centre in and bring a sense of inner peace. You can use apps such as Headspace or Calm, or simply sit in silence and concentrate on your breath.

If that’s not your jam, journaling is also a fantastic option. Journal what you are thinking and/or feeling or make a list of what you are grateful for. It allows you to take a moment and clear your head in the morning.

Plan Your Day

Spend a few minutes planning out what is important for the day. Outlining your tasks, appointments, and goals goes a long way. This also helped me narrow down my focus to the top three priorities.

Creating a clear plan further reduces decision fatigue and helps you remain productive and organized throughout the day.

Eat a Nutritious Breakfast

Healthy fuel is key to staying energised and focused. A well-rounded meal that contains protein, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates can help you stay alert and satisfied. Some simple options include:

  • Greek yogurt topped with berries and granola.
  • Avocado scrambled eggs and whole-grain toast.
  • A smoothie full of spinach, banana, protein powder and almond milk.
  • Steer clear of sugary cereals or pastries that can spark energy crashes later in the day.

Limit Screen Time

Don’t get tempted to look at your phone or scroll through social media as soon as you get up in the morning. Checking notifications, emails, or the news when you wake up can cause stress and distract from your goals. Try focusing on your routine, and give yourself a tech-free start to the day.

If you use your phone as an alarm clock, you might keep it out of reach so you’re not tempted to scroll mindlessly.

Have it Integrate Personal Development

The first wake hours of the day is truly a helpful time to set your intentions for a morning. Read a book, listen to a podcast, or practice a new skill for 10-15 minutes. Select material that challenges you or teaches you something new and valuable to your personal or professional growth.

This purposeful allocation of time can increase your confidence and motivation while giving you a sense of accomplishment before your workday starts.

Be Flexible and Change If You Have to

But it’s also important to keep it flexible. Life happens, and not every morning will follow the playbook. Don’t stress; change your routine accordingly. Progress, not perfection, is the aim.

Periodically assess your routine to determine what’s sustainable and what isn’t. Continue to adjust, in order to stay in line with what’s serving you (and what you want) in the morning.

Conclusion

A morning routine that sets you up for success doesn’t have to be difficult to build. Whether it’s making time in your day to engage in some mindfulness, go for a walk or do just about anything, making a routine that suits you will change your virtual life, even if it just means using an app MovieBox Pro for seconds of relaxation so you can catch up on your favorite show.
