A refrigerator's operation principle

A typical refrigerator involves four processes. Every process is circular.

Evaporation

Compression

Following the evaporator, the refrigerant gas enters the compressor. Here motor compresses it to increase its temperature and pressure.

Condensation

The high-pressure and high-temperature refrigerant enters the condenser after the compressor. The refrigerant gas dissipates all heat it absorbed while in the evaporator as it passes through the condenser.

Expansion

All refrigerators have expansion valves that reduce the pressure of the liquid refrigerant exiting the condenser.

A thermostat detects the temperature of the refrigerator compartment and automatically stops the refrigerant flow. When the temperature rises, the refrigerant begins to flow again.
