How Has The Life Changed After Becoming a Freelancer
What difference has becoming a freelancer made in my life
Becoming a freelancer can lead to significant changes in one's life.
Imagine a full-time freelancer happily typing away at a laptop or filling a sketchbook with exciting new designs. But there's a lot more to freelancing than that. Many people don't realize that when you work as a freelancer, you run your own small business, and most freelancers spend the majority of their time trying to run and expand their business while also doing creative work.
In addition to billable work defined as all work for which freelancers can bill their clients, freelancers are responsible for a plethora of non-billable tasks, such as developing proposals, locating potential clients, sending contracts and invoices to current clients, and maintaining their personal brand through social media posting. Without a doubt, freelancing is a lot of work.
A Feeling of Independence
Without a doubt, one of the most significant accomplishments of my new career was freedom. I've always done well with autonomy. It provides me with the best work-life balance. For example, I enjoy exercising at home, and during college, I always learned more quickly studying alone than in class.
Setting deadlines helps you stay on track.
Talking about deadlines. Deadlines can be your best friend or your worst enemy. If you're anything like me, you thrive under pressure. You need them to keep you in check so you don't go looking for something shiny.
Remember that deadlines can sneak up on you, so planning is essential. I always keep a planner on hand and have discovered that I work best when I divide large tasks into smaller ones. Doing a little bit every day instead of trying to get everything done the night before or on the day it's due just doesn't work, especially for larger projects.
Here are some common ways in which people's lives often change after transitioning to freelancing:
1. Flexibility: Freelancers typically have greater control over their work schedules and locations. They can choose when and where to work, allowing for a more flexible lifestyle.
2. Independence: Freelancers are their own bosses. They have the freedom to make decisions about the projects they take on, the clients they work with, and the direction of their careers.
3. Variety: Freelancing often offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects for different clients. This variety can bring new challenges and help freelancers develop a broader skill set.
4. Income fluctuations: Freelancers may experience income fluctuations as their earnings depend on the number and nature of the projects they undertake. Some months might be financially lucrative, while others may be leaner. Effective budgeting and financial planning are essential.
5. Expanded network: Freelancers often need to build a network of clients and colleagues to find new projects and opportunities. Networking becomes crucial to establishing a strong reputation and maintaining a steady stream of work.
6. Skill development: Freelancers have the opportunity to continually develop and refine their skills. They can choose projects that align with their interests and goals, allowing them to deepen their expertise in specific areas.
7. Responsibility: Freelancers bear the responsibility of managing all aspects of their business, including client communication, project management, invoicing, and taxes. This increased responsibility requires organizational skills and self-discipline.
8. Work-life balance: While freelancing can offer more flexibility, it can also blur the boundaries between work and personal life. Establishing a healthy work-life balance becomes important to avoid burnout and maintain overall well-being.
It's important to note that freelancing experiences can vary widely depending on the industry, individual circumstances, and personal preferences. Some people thrive in a freelance lifestyle, while others may find it challenging.
