London's vision of life can feel like a fantasy. The exterior beauty of London is one of the most historic so magnificent cities in the world. It is made up of excellent cuisine, lively nightlife, a unique public transport system and a wealth of annual events and activities.

Fortunately, London's job market is quite extensive. With opportunities covering a myriad industry and job roles, a position that fits perfectly can seem easy to find but competition can be stiff.

And how are you going to get your foot in the door? This guide will take you through the eight steps to get a job in London.

Think about your industry

The scale of London is huge. The giant United Kingdom features businesses in every possible industry. While jobs in many industries can be found, it is important to consider whether yours is common in the city. This is helpful to evaluate correctly the probability of finding a position that meets your career goals and skills.

While other sectors are rapidly increasing, the financial sector is (and traditionally has been) the most prevalent market. The financial industry works from the city of London or the "square mile" – from the finance, business and trade. More than 400,000 workers in the city work every day, and this figure continues to grow.

Fashion, technology, private healthcare, media, pharmaceuticals, retail, turism, legal, property and manufacturing are other big industries in the busy UK city. In any of these fields, prospective Londoners have a multitude of opportunities.

Start looking online

With the number of jobs available in London, a large number of housing listings are not unexpected. While large work sites like Ebay, LinkedIn and Indeed list a lot of vacancies, there are also smaller online platforms that support you search.

Reed houses more than 80,000 entries across the London job industries, and is targeted at non-local people looking to find jobs in the city of Gumtree, which lists all types of jobs, including those in service, hospitality and retail.

Build your network

Networking is one of the most important tasks. More than 50% of company jobs are carried out by someone within the company or an employee reference.

You may wish to visit some of the larger career fairs such as the London Job Show and Skills London if you have an opportunity to visit London during your job search. If you can't do timing, try participating in certain professional events, many of which can be found online at websites such as Eventbrite or Meetup.

Find an agent

While the Internet is an excellent resource, you can also work with an agent to find suitable jobs. Such recruiting firms are great to help you get an interview with your foot at the door. If you intend to partner with an agency, the following choices are both highly regarded and unique to the industry. However, don't worry, there are many cross-industry options.

If you want to get your foot at the door, Attic has specialized in PA and secretarial positions for candidates.

Capita Resourcing is famous for its excellence in placing teachers and administrators in education.

For techies, developers, data analysts, securities experts as well as similar positions, Client Server is beneficial for both browsing online jobs and working with an agent.

Hydrogen agents often place best roles in business transformation, law, life science, technology, finance and energy.

If none of these sounds good for your job, check and click through a large list of recruitment agencies in London.

Put together a great CV

London's work market is huge, but so is the worker pool. And make sure you stand out, you will have to make an excellent CV.

While CVs in London are a format similar to those in the US, a London-based service can be helpful to help customize them to city companies. There are a lot of CV consultancies around London and most of them are available online to help with your CV. Many job advisors and the CV Center are well tested options.

It is important to note that it is unusual for Britain to produce a "summary," so the titling of your paper "CV" is a better idea. While there was some difference in history between a resume and a resume, there is actually no differentiation today. You can only adjust the title of your document.

Prepare for your interview

Interviews in London may feel like interviews in the United States. There are no significant customary or cultural differences. Your interviewee expects you to be timely and well-prepared for the whole company, role and industry with a wealth of background knowledge.

The dress code is a major difference, especially for women. While it is fairly common in the U.S. to take a casual look in interviews, it is more typical to dress in a formal business way in London. This is not standardized, like any interview procedure. Do not hesitate to ask your contact about the dress code in advance.

Reed has a wide range of articles covering all sorts of topics related to interviews and is specifically adapted to the UK if you want more interview tips, dos and don't, etc.

Apply for your visa

Getting a work visa in the UK is more difficult than in many countries, but it's still not a big obstacle to traveling to London. There are some things first to obtain a visa: a confirmed job offer from a registered employer in the UK; your employer acts as your sponsor A sponsor certificate from your sponsoring employer A passing certificate for a points-based evaluation of your particular type of visa.

There are four tiers of work visas you can get in London:

  • General, skilled worker visa .
  • Intra-company transfer visa .
  • Sportsperson visa .
  • Minister of religion visa.

The vast majority of workers fell in the first group, which is ' skilled worker. ' As described above, the visa would depend on the evaluation of the criteria. Fundamental criteria are:

  • The ability to speak English
  • An appropriate salary offer
  • “Maintenance,” or having £800 in your bank account for at least 3 months prior to your application .
  • A certificate of sponsorship that meets at least one of four requirements (to be met by your employer)

Get ready to move

Finding a job in London can be tough, but sometimes a new city will feel tougher. There are a lot of expatriates living in London who can help you feel at home when you arrive. Check out this London American Expat conference or any of the globally identified meetings and groups of expatriates.

TimeOut London still offers a lot of great tips and is a great resource to find places to go and stuff to do in the city.

Once you have everything to move to London you will possibly have to transfer your energy from or to British Pounds. When you intend to open a bank account or know someone with a bank account in the UK, consider using TransferWise to make the most of your funds. TransferWise does not just use the real mid-market exchange rate to convert your money, but also receives your money and sends it to your home country and UK via local bank payments. Through eliminating international transfers, you are investing even more money.
