Family Friendly Travel Prep Tips

With all the excitement of traveling with the family, one may forget to properly secure their home while they will be away. To keep your home safe requires some effort and preparation beforehand just as preparation needs to be done beforehand for the family trip. Here are five family travel preparation tips for a safe home.

Valuables Should Not Be Out in The Open

The first tip is to keep your valuables, in and out of your home, locked away, or hidden from plain sight. It may sound surprising, but we forget to put away some of these things: jewelry, important documents, important keys, and the likes should all be placed in an unmovable safe hidden in the house, or in a safety deposit box. Cars should be inside the garage in case potential intruders notice that your cars haven't moved for long. Spare keys should be collected from anywhere, in or outside, the house, and should be kept with you, or given to a trustworthy family member or friend. Keep all of the curtains and blinds of your house closed, and windows shut and locked.

Photocopy, and Send Important Documents to Yourself.

Have photocopies of important documents with you including your tickets for travel, insurance and travel insurance, and even your will if you have one in case of an emergency. Another effective advice is to discuss, and let your partner know, as well as the adults of the family, of the photocopies, information, passwords, and all that you have saved with you on a digital device, while you are traveling in case of an emergency. Try to back up these important documents by sending them to yourself on your email, USB storage stick, iCloud storage, or any other electronic device.

Social Media and Traveling

There was once was a family who went on a family vacation. A burglar finds the chance to go into their mail to search for the residents' names, and also search it on social media. He finds everything from their current location to the pictures they have left for everyone to see. You do not want to be this family. Make sure you do not have unopened mail with your name, or letters that should have been shredded, but instead thrown away. Be very careful and responsible in sharing your location and pictures openly online.

Safety Gadgets for Your Home Security

Locking up your home, putting away valuables, shredding letters with your name on them, and so on are very helpful in leaving no trace, and not aiding trespassers, but that is not all in preparing to secure your home. Technology has provided us with fascinating ways of securing our belongings and livelihood. From among the safety gadgets are security alarms and wireless security cameras. This amazing safety gadget that is used for your home, office, and elsewhere can be used indoors and outdoors. It is small, wireless, and you can connect it to your smart phone, and other screens to capture movement at all times. Additionally, it records all activity on your phone at all times. This is one of the best ways to secure your home.

Trusted Neighbors

Another brilliant tip is to inform your trusted neighbors, trusted family, or trusted friends that you and your family will be traveling, and to keep an eye out on your house for any suspicious activity. You can even give a spare key to a trusted family member or friend to check on the inside of your house to make sure nothing is leaking, and to water your plants. Arrange for either a trusted neighbor, family, or friend to pick up your mail from time to time, and maybe even keep a small light on every night to make it seem like people are home. These tips and tricks can keep intruders away, and keep your home secure and safe while you are away.
