The Wow Factor

You have probably been to many apartments that you liked. The décor you saw in them probably seemed like something that would look well in your living quarters. This practice is not uncommon, as there are eye-catching department designs that could be implemented in pretty much any home. If you decide to go through with redesigning your apartment, the reward will not only be a pleasant living space, but also the amazement of visitors. Your friends’ and family’s first words when they enter your redesigned apartment will simply be, “wow!”

Mixing Old with New

If your furniture is old or vintage, but the pieces you have found are of modern design, do not worry. Old and new actually go well together, as this combo is not considered kitsch. An old wooden chair can be paired up with a linoleum surface. Furthermore, a vintage mirror that you might store at your old family home will go well a modern apartment design, as it ushers in the element of tradition that many contemporary homes lack.

Go crazy with wallpapers

If you thought that walls need a fresh coat of paint from time to time, you were wrong. In reality, you can achieve more with multicolored wallpapers than with a brush and several cans of paint. The thing is wallpapers don’t have to be applied to the entire surface of the wall, and you can use them to visually partition the room and play with geometrical forms. The kitchen could have a long string of decorative wallpaper that will create a borderline parallel with the countertop. In fact, every room is suitable for wallpapers, not only the kitchen, as even the shed outdoors can be redesigned with just a few meters of colorful wallpaper.

Awnings

If your apartment is facing the street, then you can use this to your advantage. Rather than keeping the shades closed all the times for privacy reasons, you can install Oztech retractable awnings to decorate your rooms. Not only will your window resemble the facade of a charming seaside cottage when you look it from the outside, but you will have better protection against the sun. Most awning models that are made for the outdoor use, come with a retractable arm, so you can fold it inside to protect the awnings from sudden wind gushes that might damage them.

Turn up the lights.

At night time, the one piece inside the apartment that is responsible for the overall atmosphere, is the lightbulb. By using old, incandescent light bulbs you are firstly wasting electricity and secondly, they can ruin the décor of the room which you have worked so hard to create. Don’t be stingy, and invest in new LED lights that produce a much stronger light and consume much less energy. They come in different colors and they can even change color using a remote controller. If you are aiming for that warm to neutral color, then look for the light bulbs that shine a light somewhere around 3000K. You can find this information on the light bulb’s packaging.

Wicker Looks Wicked

If you were thinking of throwing away that old laundry basket made out of wicker and replace it with a plastic one, don’t do it! Household objects made out of wicker, or padded with wicker, are an ideal solution for any apartment. They breed out that rustic air that goes well with any décor. You can consider placing some wicker wrapping around the flower pots, and the centerpiece in the living room could be a coffee table made out of, you’ve guessed it, wicker.

Little Things Matter

If you want your home to look more luxurious on a budget, then you need to make a visual inspection of the details, like outlets, knobs, switches, buttons, etc. If they are in a fairly good condition, and you are happy with their design, all you need to do is polish them thoroughly to give them a new look. On the other hand, if you deem any of these details as outdated, then replace them with more modern variants. They can be purchased from any DIY center and they come in different patterns and color, as there are even models for the children’s room, featuring your kids’ famous cartoon characters and action heroes.

Look up!

In terms of the details that a truly innovative apartment design should have, homeowners usually think of the floors and the furniture as something they could alter. However, you should not forget to look up at your plain white ceiling that can hurt any décor solution you are trying to implement. A blue, wave-like pattern painted on the ceiling will change the look of the entire room and in some cases, this change alone will be enough to redesign the entire apartment.

As you have seen, it’s all in the details. The décor suggestions listed here are a great place to start altering the look of your apartment from. Your creativity and imagination can take it from there.
