Eating Fat Won't Make You Fat - Here's Why!

This is one of the oldest and most common diet myths out there, but I’m happy to report that it’s not true! Eating fat does not make you fat. It may seem counterintuitive if you’ve been told since childhood that fatty foods make you fatter than non-fatty foods, but it turns out that our bodies don’t process and store different types of food in the same way. In fact, studies show that fat might actually be essential to weight loss and lead to other health benefits!

You Only Need to Know 3 Ingredients

The psychological fact is that we eat with our eyes. And I mean that literally. Your brain requires about 20 calories per day to run, and for most of us that’s about 10% of what we consume. The rest? We just want it because it looks good. But, you say, if you’re overweight, surely you can afford to splurge on some delicious treats?

Cooking Oil Replacements

So you’re trying to eat healthier, and you really want to cut back on your cooking oil intake. The problem is, what can you use in its place? Canola oil? Safflower oil? Coconut oil? Avocado oil? Eating a diet low in fat is far better for your body than one high in fat—but don’t eliminate fat altogether. Replacing cooking oils with these mayonnaise substitutes will make it easier for you to replicate recipes from restaurants at home.

Replacing Eggs in Recipes

Eggs can be a great ingredient for binding and fluffing up baked goods. Replacing them, however, is much easier than you might think. Replace each egg with 1/4 cup of water plus one of these three ingredients: 1 tablespoon of ground flax seeds (mixed with 3 tablespoons water), 1⁄4 cup silken tofu or 1⁄4 cup applesauce. If you're replacing eggs in a savory recipe, replace each egg with 2 teaspoons of cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water. In addition to being healthier options that won't spike your blood sugar like eggs do, they'll also help keep things moist and add protein to your dish.

Replacing Milk and Dairy Products

Replacing dairy products with soy-based alternatives isn’t necessary, especially if you aren’t lactose intolerant. It can be an expensive habit, and sometimes is associated with certain health issues like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). If you do find yourself craving butter or a glass of milk, there are plenty of high-quality low-calorie options available to swap in—just use your taste buds to guide you.

Other Ways To Save On Your Grocery Bill

If you are thinking about cutting your grocery bill, you have to remember that there are many ways to save. Cooking at home can be more cost-effective, and it’s healthier for your family as well. That being said, with a little creativity, homemade food doesn’t have to cost much more than eating out or buying processed foods from a supermarket. Here are a few of my tips for eating healthy on a budget: Can You Do This? This is one of my favorite blogs to read because she has so many ideas for saving money. She shares her own recipes and offers helpful hints for making things last longer in your pantry, freezing meat properly, etc. I really like her post on how to make butter chicken at home . It was easy enough that I gave it a try myself (and loved it!). Check out some of her other posts here . How To Cook Everything Mark Bittman is an amazing cookbook author. His book How To Cook Everything has helped me learn how to make all sorts of things in my kitchen including pasta sauce , no-knead bread , pizza dough , French toast , pancakes , brownies , quiche and so much more!

Secrets To Saving Money At Restaurants And Food Outlets

The fact is, there are very few foods you can’t easily replicate at home for less. Do you know what I mean? When it comes to traditional dishes like potters house, apple pie or butter chicken – they all have multiple recipes that you can make yourself at home. And if not, most supermarkets sell ready-made meals that taste as good (if not better) than those high-end restaurants.
