Introduction

Building your own computer desk is a great way to save money and get a desk that is customized to your needs. This project is also relatively easy to do, even for beginners. In this blog post, I will walk you through the steps on how to build a computer desk with a slide-out drawer.

Materials List

• 2 sheets of ¾" plywood (for the top and bottom)

o This is the most important part of the desk, as it will support all of your weight and equipment. Make sure to choose plywood that is strong and durable.

• 4 pieces of 2x4 (for the legs)

o These will provide support for the desk and keep it from wobbling.

• 2 pieces of 2x2 (for the braces)

o These will help to strengthen the frame of the desk.

• 1 sheet of ¼" plywood (for the drawer)

o This is the material that will make up the drawer itself.

• 1 set of drawer slides

o These will allow the drawer to slide in and out smoothly.

• Wood glue

o This will help to hold the pieces of wood together.

• Screws

o These will provide additional strength and stability.

• Sandpaper

o This will be used to smooth out any rough edges.

• Paint or stain (optional)

o This is optional, but it can be used to customize the look of the desk.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cut the plywood to the following dimensions:

o Top: 24" x 60"

 This is the surface that you will be working on, so make sure it is level and smooth.

o Bottom: 20" x 60"

 This will provide support for the top and keep it from sagging.

o Drawer: 18" x 12" x 3"

 This is the size of the drawer that you will be building.

o Legs: 30" long

 These will be the height of the desk.

o Braces: 12" long

 These will help to keep the legs from spreading apart.

2. Assemble the legs and braces.

o Use wood glue and screws to attach the legs to the braces. Make sure that the frame is square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner. The measurements should be the same.

3. Attach the top and bottom to the legs and braces.

o Use wood glue and screws to attach the top and bottom to the frame. Make sure that the top and bottom are flush with the sides of the frame.

4. Cut the drawer front to size.

o The drawer front should be the same width as the drawer, but it should be slightly taller. This will allow for the drawer slides to be installed.

5. Attach the drawer slides to the drawer and the cabinet.

o Follow the instructions that come with the drawer slides to attach them to the drawer and the cabinet. Make sure that the slides are level and that the drawer can slide in and out smoothly.

6. Install the drawer in the cabinet.

o Slide the drawer into the cabinet and secure it in place with screws.

7. Sand the entire desk and apply paint or stain, if desired.

o Use a sanding block to smooth out any rough edges. Then, apply paint or stain to the desk to protect it and give it a finished look.

Conclusion

Once you have completed these steps, you will have a custom-made computer desk with a slide-out drawer. This desk is perfect for storing your computer, peripherals, and other office supplies.

Here are some additional tips for building your own computer desk:

• Use a level to make sure that the frame is square.

• Pre-drill holes for the screws to prevent the wood from splitting.

• Use a sander to smooth out any rough edges.

• Be creative with the design and paint or stain the desk to match your décor.

With a little planning and effort, you can build a computer desk that is both functional and stylish.
