The tree of life is legendary in the Biblical account of the garden of Eden.

To think that a tree supplied life and sustained people is amazing, and some days I feel that I really need that tree of life after another day sitting slumped over in front of a computer, squinting to see some numbers and the fine print on yet another supplier contract.

Posture is the last thing on my mind, and so it is for most of us. We are not aware of our posture and after a hard day in the office, and the drive home in the traffic, we slump into our lounge suite or couch at home and watch Netflix, while wolfing down supper or some form of what can loosely be called nutrition.

All the while, our supportive back muscles are no longer doing their job, due to lack of posture and the weakening of our muscles because of our lifestyle.

Various reports state 65 million Americans and counting suffer from back pain and much of this may be because of loss of energy.

Keeping the right posture is energy sapping and, after a day of hunching over computer screens, the last thing we want to do is put effort into our posture.

Not only is the ‘office worker syndrome’ bad for our posture and our eyes, but fast food and lack of proper nutrition and exercise is increasing chronic disease rates like diabetes, cancer, arthritis, amongst others.

All is not lost, for me or for you. We have hope! We have hope I tell you! Hope because of a tree, actually, the seed of a tree.

Clinical trials have shown that this seed, which was revered by the ancients for its healing properties, is showing some major promise.

When we lose our way like we have in the modern world in many aspects of health care, it is best to go back to the beginning. How about 5,000 years back?

This tree with its seeds is hardy in that it can survive harsh conditions. Conditions such as those in Arabia, but also across Africa and East India too. About 5,000 years ago, the Vedic literature has documented the healing potential of this tree and its leaves and seeds. The ancients used many attributes of the Moringa tree and the seeds and leaves in medicinal healing.

The ancients knew some stuff, and although modern investigations have not proven the many traditional healing claims, there is still ongoing study on this amazing tree and its leaves and seeds.

They have run clinical trials on this seed extract and the results have been encouraging to reduce back pain and eye strain and even stiff shoulders. The natural world once again comes to rescue us from our unnatural working ways.

They trialed a dosage of 120mg for 4 weeks, and the results were impressive.

I quote from the clinical trial, linked below.

‘Results: Intake of moringa seed extract led to the significant decrease in VAS scores of fatigue, low back pain, stiff shoulder, and eye strain. A difference in low back pain VAS scores from baseline was significantly higher in the treatment group than the placebo group after two weeks. Among the subjects with higher fatigue VAS score subgroups, the change was considerably more significant after four weeks in the treatment group. In the higher low back pain VAS score subgroups, the difference from the baseline scores was considerably more significant after 2, 3, and 4 weeks among the subjects of treatment group.

Conclusion: The consumption of moringa seed extract is found effective in lowering the severity of fatigue and low back pain among the healthy working men and women of middle age subjects with somewhat severe symptoms.’

The more I read and learn about the amazing planet and the plants and animals and the nutrition and healing derived from them, the more I ask where we went wrong as a developed global society and it almost always leads me back to the condition of humankind. Motivated by money and greed.

I look forward to increased studies in future and the results that no doubt will astound us.
