How frequently should I take breaks from my running routine and how do I create a running routine that works optimally for me? If I follow this running schedule will I improve? Should I invest in specific running equipment? Should I change my diet? Should I have a running partner? These questions and more will be answered by this article entitled Starting to Run. My running journey began in middle school when I ran through my neighborhood in Orchard Park, New York. I was very good at running and inclined to run. I found running to be my passion as a sport and it was really easy when I started out. I competed in middle school and ran on the girls varsity team for my private Christian academy. I always placed in the top 3 of all the schools we competed with. Running in these years was pivotal to fuel my love for running. I enjoyed the freedom of running and feeling like I could compete in an individualized sport that would enable me to have friendly competition but stay on my own path. In high school I ran track and cross country multiple years but did not perform optimally. I had several injuries from track and I learned that it is not good to run every day for a long duration of time without taking breaks. I did not run in college but I always had running as a hobby that I could do at any point in time well. One of my good friends in college who was from Russia ran mountain trails at Liberty University after classes and invited me to join her a few times. At this point in life running was a hobby for me and not something I was willing to invest greatly into. After college running became more competitive for me. Running became my passion and now I teach running classes online and hope to answer any questions you may have about running. One of the most important elements of running is nutrition. Eating vegetabes and fruits instead of processed foods is really important. Protein is okay. It is better to lean towards fresh fruits and vegetables rather than protein because you will find that you have just built more muscle and this may slow you down. Stay away from sugary foods, carbohydrates, and fats. Another element that good runners know is when to take breaks. If you have a running schedule you run every day for 5 miles take a week off. You can take a week off and get back to the trails you have been running on with a new perspective. Thank you for any of your questions or thoughts about running! Happy to hear from you!
