Morning can be a drag for many of us. You may be just going through the motions for half the morning. Trying to sit through meetings seems nearly impossible and we are just hoping that the end of the day will come quickly. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be that way! Even if you have never been a morning person there are things you can do to help yourself out. Here are 9 hacks to help you be a morning person:

Try Changing Your Alarm

If you normally use a regular ringtone on your phone, try changing it to actual music from your phone. Choose something happy and fast-paced. If you already use a song, make sure it is a song that sets the right mood for the day.

Don’t Hit Snooze

Don’t allow yourself to start off the morning slow. It can be the start of dragging through the rest of your morning. Although there is nothing harmful about hitting the snooze button, if you want to feel more alert in the morning you may want to avoid it.

Get Active

Whether you choose to do your entire workout or you just do some yoga or stretching, this is an easy way to get your body going. Many people feel better when they get most of their daily tasks completed in the top half of the day.

Make Sure You Have Something To Look Forward To

When you have no reason to get up, why do it… right? Whether it’s a phone call with a friend, you love your job, or a fitness class you enjoy, make sure you find something that motivates you. That way, getting up and getting going is that much easier.

Eat A Healthy Breakfast

Food is fuel. It will get your body going but you want to be careful with what you start your day off with. Starting the day off with a sugary breakfast can actually slow you down. Simple carbs and carbs with high sugar content will cause a blood sugar spike… and then drop. This will leave you less full and less focused than a healthy breakfast. Usually, those foods provide little to no nutritional value as well.

Try Focusing Your Mind

Meditation may be a great option to wake you up. Relaxing the body and letting yourself go outside your being and drive home what you would like to accomplish may help you focus throughout the rest of the day.

Just Get Some Sleep

Seriously. We all know what it feels like to get up after a long night out or when we stayed up until our regular time but then had to get up earlier than usual. It is usually not a good day, is it? Getting enough sleep will help you stay alert throughout the day.

Give Yourself A Bedtime

If you have a pretty consistent daily schedule, create a nightly routine for yourself. Try and go to bed around the same time every night. A routine can train the mind to believe it is time to settle down and you may fall asleep sooner. It is also a way to ensure that you can get the hours that you need.

Cool Down The Shower

You don’t even have to take a cold shower! Even if its cooler for just a few seconds, it may alert you and get the little boost you need. This can be a more brutal option, but it can do the trick!

Some of these are much easier said than done but it can be well worth it if you want less of a morning struggle. Some of them are as simple as just making a different choice. If you don’t think you are capable, trust me, you are! I felt that way about it for the longest time but I went from being an 11 a.m.-er to a 5 a.m.-er and my day is so much better. If I can do it, you definitely can!
