Statement pieces ought to make statements, yeah?

But as with most things in life, abuse is inevitable when the use of a thing is not understood. When not used properly, statement pieces can easily leave you with a space with little to no coordination – or worse, a tacky look!

Find out how to rock statement pieces to improve your overall décor.

1. Work with Your Space Dimensions

Your signature item should be the focal point of the space, but it shouldn't take up the whole show. You must ensure that it has a strong supporting cast. Having just one item in a given space is not only unattractive but also inefficient. Leaving an item on its own might throw the whole room's aesthetic off.

You may choose a statement piece that is both eye-catching and harmonious with the rest of the room's decor by taking the room's dimensions and existing furnishings into account. After all, you need an eye-catching focal point that complements your decor.

2. Let Go of the Urgh-Inducing Obsession to Match Stuff

The era of matching furnishings is gone. Throw pillows don't need to coordinate with the rug's design or the vase on the end table. Intentional mismatching has certain benefits in the modern world.

Your signature piece does not need to match the colors or styles of the space perfectly, but you should consider the size of the room and how other objects will play off of it. You may make it stand out even more by letting it "clash" with other elements. To pull off a statement item well, you need to find a happy medium between being too bold and being too subtle.

3. Make Sure It's Exciting

Anything that draws attention to your area should be uplifting, fascinating, or pleasant. Your focal point should be enjoyable to own. It wouldn't be a terrible idea to include a fun component. Never let your standout item get monotonous, there's a reason why it's dubbed an attention-grabber.

The goal is to infuse your area with a feeling of ease, comfort, and relaxation. This may be accomplished through a wonderful display of creativity in a work of art, a piece of wallpaper, or a wall mural. It might also be a spotless table lamp, a center table with a unique appearance, or a stunning chandelier.

4. Colors Speak Volumes — Always Bear This in Mind

Different hues convey different meanings. Colors have psychological and emotional effects, which begs the question, what exactly are you hoping that showpiece would convey to you and your visitors?

The use of blues and greens in a big gathering space such as a family room may make a bold statement. Because of their soothing nature, these hues convey to everyone who enters a message of tranquility and harmony. Let's face it, that could very well come in handy during those huge family reunions. Use warm colors like oranges and yellows to convey feelings of enthusiasm.

5. A Second Statement Piece Is Allowed

Yes, you can add another statement piece to your interior design. This statement may cause some debate among modern interior decorators, but it is nevertheless correct.

Obviously, you can't get away with merely adding a second unique piece of furniture or wall art. It requires some preparation to guarantee that your components will fit together. You should coordinate your statement items for the best effect. One large piece of art and one interesting chair may make just as strong a statement as two smaller pieces of art.

One may compare a statement item to the main attraction of a show. Many shows have more than one main character, yet, together they accomplish what two statement pieces can't do individually- they tell the whole tale.

6. Define What a Statement Piece Is – To You!

Feel free to shake things up a little! Just because it makes a statement doesn't mean it needs to stand alone. Despite the existence of three individual pieces in a tryptic of striking artwork on a huge wall, the impact is that of a single piece. Choosing two items that complement one another well isn't the same as what I'm describing here. The ambiance of a space can be established in an unusual way by combining many smaller items into one large statement piece.

Envision a grouping of striking, significant objects on your mantle or coffee table. Independently, they are only supplementary elements of a whole. Individually they may not have much impact, but collectively they may serve as a focal point and define the tone of the whole room. Keep in mind that it is meant to make a bold statement. Thinking outside the box with a statement piece makes a statement all by itself.
