If you manage any property that contains trees, chances are you've had one or more of them removed. It doesn't really matter if the tree was damaged or it was just time to clear out some space. Even after you've done your best to ensure that it's cut down safely, there's one thing you won't forget: the stump.

We have a lot of knowledge about trees and how they can ruin a landscape. If you're looking to remove an old stump, now is the time to do it. We're the Portland tree removal experts. We offer five options for tree stump extraction.

GRUBBING EXTRA

It is tedious but can save you time and money. To remove the stump by yourself, you will need to dig up the soil around the stump. This will expose the larger tree root.

Depending on the root size, you can use loppers and/or pry bars to cut them into manageable sizes. Once they are cut, pull as much soil as you can, and clear away any remaining roots.

After you've removed as many roots from the stump as possible, it should be possible to pull it out. You might need to dig underneath the stump, and then you will be able to pull it out with the spade. Once you have removed the stump, it can now be chopped up into pieces and added to your compost. While some roots might be left in ground, most should eventually fall to the ground.

If you have a mini excavator that is mechanically operated, this makes it a smart choice.

Digging it Out

The easiest method to get rid of a tree stump is to just dig the whole thing. As long as the roots are not too deep you may be able to fix the problem with a few basic tools and some elbow grease.

First, remove the stump from the ground. First, remove as much of the root system and especially the larger roots as possible. After you've done this, you can begin breaking down the roots into smaller pieces. This is where a rootsaw is recommended. You will want to be able to control exactly where you're cutting. If you use an axe, you risk breaking into an unidentified rock. Once roots have been removed, you can pull them out from the soil. You can now use a shovel to remove the stump.

Using a Stump Grinder

If you find that the roots of a stump are getting too deep, a stump crusher may be needed. These powerful machines are made to grind up stumps and roots. Some homeowners prefer to hire a professional for the operation of their stump grinder. A stump grinder is a highly effective tool for tree Stump Removals Bayside , no matter if it's you or someone else.

Safety is the number one priority for anyone working with heavy machinery. Make sure you clear the stump and surrounding area of any stones or other debris before you start working. Make sure you have the right eye and hearing protection. Also make sure you have sturdy gloves, boots, and gloves. You can now move the grinder to its final position and get to work. You will need to grind not only visible stumps, but also root systems surrounding it. If you can cover enough of the circumference, it will be easy to extract the stump debris.

Burning it

You have two options if you aren't sure a stump-grinder is the right tool for you. There are risks associated with using fire for tree stump extraction. Please check the fire codes and laws in your area to ensure it is safe. You'll be able easily to remove the stump once you're given the green light.

If you want to remove a stump with a fire, make sure that the stump is in the middle. Be prepared to continue lighting the fire by putting wood around and above the stump. A stump can be burned away in hours. Make sure your fire is large and hot. Continue to tend the fire and you will eventually have ashes. Then, dig it out and replace it by new soil.

PULLING or WINCHING

A winch can also be used to pull small stumps from trees. These winches can be hired but need training and knowledge in order to safely use them. To maximize leverage, it is best to leave a stub of at least 1.2m (4ft high) on the stump rather than cutting it down to ground level.

Rot it away

If you have ever taken biology class, then you are well aware that nature has many powerful waste disposal tools. For tree stump removal, you can use the same tools. Rot and decay are natural parts of life. However, with some encouragement you can still clear your yard using the same methods.

To get the process started, make the stump appealing to microbial growth. Make holes in the stump at eight inches depth. Then, fill these holes with warmwater and a nitrogen-rich substance. While blood meal, or your own compost, are excellent sources of nitrogen, they remain natural.

The decay process will speed up and the stump will become weaker by adding water and nitrogen. As the stump begins rotting, it will become easier to take out small sections. The stump can be removed with enough time and no labor.

Chemically remove it

You can also use chemical methods to remove tree stumps. Chemical stump removers work on the same principles as organicallyrotting a tree stump, but can present risks if they are not used properly. Chemical stump removers, when used correctly, can be very effective in removing unwanted stumps.

Once again, drilling holes into the stump should be your first step. Once you have drilled enough holes around the stump to be able to spread your chemical remover, The next step is to wait for the chemicals' effects to kick in and soften the stump. This can take several months so be patient.

While you wait for the chemicals to wear off, keep your pets and children away from the stump. Once the stump is weak, you will be able to remove it and cut it up. Some homeowners find it beneficial to also use fire at this stage to further weaken the underground. By doing this, you can remove the stump as well as its root systems.
