Year after year, there seems to be an addition to the style of homes. While a more modern look has recently been the most popular style, it can get quite frustrating having to keep up with the most popular home styles that are added. In many cases, this leads to having to make constant changes, and upgrades to make a house look more new. For that matter, given that the majority of houses have an older, traditional style, all homes could use at least some touch-ups to make them more "of the times." Whether you're a realtor looking to flip a house, or just an average homeowner, any small update couldn't hurt. With that said, let's talk about five hacks that we can use to make an old home look brand new.

#5: A New Paint Job

If you are looking for a more noticeable change to an old house, one of the easiest ways to do so is by giving an old home a new paint job. Worth noting, this can be done on both the inside and outside of a home. Recently, there has been a new wave of elegant paint jobs added to homes. All this requires is giving a home a modern, yet softer tone of paint. Nonetheless, any bolder color would immediately add to the style of a home.

#4: Mixing Modern And Traditional Furniture

While the outside of a home is the first impression that people get of a home, the very next impression will quite obviously come from the inside. More specifically, the style of furniture could make a huge difference in a home. Even the smallest change to a home's furniture could make a whole living room pop. Of course, this then adds to how modern the house is. That said, mixing modern and traditional furniture has been proven to be the most effective combination. Leaning too much to one side, or the other might throw off the whole style of a home.

#3: Upgrade Your Window Wells

Upgrading your window wells will help your home feel more modern and put together. Traditional window wells are tin and boring. They tend to look cheap, and make the space feel dark. Adding a lighter, newer window well will give the space a luxurious feel. If you have ugly window wells, you probably tend to leave the blinds down and curtains closed to cover them up. By upgrading them, you can let light into the space.

#2: Replacing Carpets With Floors

One of the more obvious changes to make in a home, in order to make it more modern is to replace carpet with hard flooring. While replacing a carpet with a more modern carpet is also a good idea, the best bet to modernize a home is to replace it with a floor. Preferably, a wooden floor would give the most noticeable effect. However, it is important not to go overboard with this replacement. Again, leaning too much to one style may cause an imbalance in the overall style of the home. As we can see, styling a home is also a balancing act among other things.

#1: Adding New Doors

A door can be looked at as a gateway to a modern home. In other words, instead of it being a barrier, it can be looked at as a welcoming piece of the home. This is why making a door change is one of the best ways to make a home look more modern. In extreme cases, some people make the change from a single door entry to double, or even a giant single door entry. In that case, it is mostly a matter of perspective with the addition of personal preference. All in all, any of these changes will surely give any home a more modern look.
