Home. It's a place of comfort and security. It's where you reconnect with family after a long day. It's where you can be yourself. It's where life happens. When you think of the place you hang your hat, what comes to mind? Is it everything you want it to be or is there an ever-growing list of things you'd like to improve or change? Since life has a way of constantly changing, your home needs to be able to adapt. Keep reading for three improvements that will help it grow along with your family.

1.) Repair or Upgrade Your Home's Water System

Have you ever had the unpleasant experience of having your hot shower suddenly shift to cold, leaving you breathless and out of sorts? If you have, chances are you have zero interest in history repeating itself. The bad news? When it happens once, it will happen again (especially if you've got a teenager who likes to camp out there instead of taking part in the morning hustle). Or maybe you've noticed a strange odor or taste coming from your tap water, or your family's clothes are coming out of the wash looking dingy or even stained. While any of these are no doubt frustrating, they're all situations that can be taken care of by a water heater company in Van Nuys. From water heater repairs or replacements to installing an in-home water filtration or softening system, there are so many ways to improve your home's water situation that will benefit everyone in your family.

2.) Give Your Mudroom a Makeover

Every home has an entryway of some kind, commonly referred to as a mudroom. One thing most people's mudrooms have in common? The tendency to get messy, disorganized and cluttered in the blink of an eye. Since there is so much foot traffic in this space, make it your priority to spruce it up so it actually works for your family. The focus here should be on organization, efficiency and versatility. Before you jump in, take inventory of everything in your soon-to-be fabulous mudroom.

Decluttering should be your first (and most important) step. Out of season clothing should be washed and stored away. Set aside any items to donate or sell. Go through shoes, backpacks, sports and outdoor equipment, keeping only what's actually being used. Once that's done, you'll have a good feel for how much room you have to work with. There are so many great ideas available for family-friendly mudrooms. Have fun with it and don't forget to add personal touches as well.

3.) Test Your Home's Air Quality

Your home's air quality should be at the very top of your priority list. Cleaning supplies, personal care products, pets, cooking and the general makeup of your home have a constant impact. All of these can add up and trigger unpleasant physical symptoms such as coughing, headaches or eye and sinus irritation. The good news? There are several ways you can improve it.

Houseplants are known to be amazing for improving air quality, while taking larger measures such as installing an in-home air purifying system will be your best bet. Make it a point to purchase only low-VOC cleaning products, and always use your stove's vent hood when cooking to cut down on indoor air pollution. Little changes here and there will add up, and your whole family will feel better as a result.

Your home gives so much to you and your family every single day. It's up to you to make sure it's a safe, healthy and well-oiled machine. Aside from the nuts and bolts of it, remember to have fun and enjoy your space. Do things to make it a home, a place to unwind and make memories with those who matter most. Once you've covered your bases, doing that will be a breeze.
